Buizel : The Sea Weasel Pokemon
It has a floatation sac that is like an inflatable collar. It floats on water with its head out. It swims by rotating its two tails like a screw. When it dives, its flotation sac collapses. The tails also slice clinging seaweed.

The PokeDex beeped. The Buizel didn't stop frowning and looking grumpy. In fact, it went into deeper grumpiness at the opposition it faced. The Slowpoke. It seemed braced and tensed. The Buizel's muscles tensed too. Waving it's tail back and forth, it seemed to have the edge over Slowpoke with agility.

"Oh. I think it wants to battle." Alice sounded unnerved. This island was full of fast Pokemon, and they didn't really have a lot of time. At least the ship hadn't arrived yet and hopefully wouldn't leave immediately, "Okay, Slowpoke. Use Yawn and then go in for a tackle attack." She commanded. Their moveset was limited, and fire blast would be ineffective here. The Pokemon did as told, firstly letting his jaw drop to yawn loudly and drowsily, shuffling forward after to try and assault his opponent.

The Buizel seemed wary. Warier than their last opponent, Staryu. Averting it's gaze to avoid the Yawn, it bounded off furthur. It had plenty of time to do so since Slowpoke was shuffling fairly slowly. Tensed in anticipation and ready to fly off in any direction should the need arise, it decided to lash out with a SonicBoom. Swiping it's forked tail down in a fast, sharp motion, it released an arc of white energy at the opponent.

"Slowpoke, bury your head into the sand!" Alice called. The Pokemon tried, but he didn't quite manage in time. He was part of the way under, but his ears still rang painfully, and his back bore the brunt of the blast, given how it was sticking up into the air. Was this a battle that they could win? "Wait for it to come to you, dodge anything that comes your way, then surprise it with strength and yawn! Keep yawning until it falls asleep! It can't ignore you this whole time!"

Buizel was too far off to hear much of what Alice said, but it picked up snippets of her commands. Best to keep it's distance. Buizel specialized in long range attacks with SonicBoom. Slashing down it's tail again, it formed a second vicious arc, powerful in itself.

"Roll over!" Alice called. That was efficient. The roly poly meant that he narrowly evaded Buizel's command, the sound blast spraying ocean water up in the air. She was getting desperate here, they needed to get it. Fine. Two could play this game. It likely had Water Absorb, so they'd chip away and go for a status condition instead. Maybe the intensity of the attack would obliterate its health, almost like Magmar in Ash's gym battle that she recalled from her childhood. "Alright, fine. Slowpoke, fire blast!"

The pink creature's jaw dropped, his eyes alight with power. The air before him wavered with heat, and then all of a sudden, a powerful blaze spewed forth from his mouth, shooting straight for Buizel. "If it moves, just keep firing until you get it! Try to predict its movements, you're psychic, after all!"

Buizel's eyes narrowed. Due to the distance between them, it just had enough time to roll in the sand, it's purpose unclear before the flames enveloped it. For a moment, everything was alight with the warm, fiery glow of the powerful attack. As the flames dissipated, Buizel could be seen standing rigid. It's body, glistening with the sheen of unseen water, gave away it's previous sneaky move, Water Sport. Flipping over acrobatically, it released another SonicBoom. Very predictable.

Slowpoke was more alert now that they were fully into the battle, but that wasn't going to speed him too much. Alice was wary to keep an ear and eye out for the ship, because the battle was secondary to moving on. "Roll!" She called, and he managed it in good time. Buizel was predictable, and Slowpoke had his own ideas now. He just had to edge closer, making his way over, keeping out of the way of the distant assaults. He decided to bide his time, waiting until Buizel was forced to pay attention before Yawning again.

Buizel was getting annoyed. All this rolling and dodging. Growling at Slowpoke to try and lower it's attack power, it unleashed a flurry of SonicBooms.

Slowpoke growled back, and then it took its chance. It unleashed another fire blast while Buizel was idle, until the blasts threw him back. Luckily for him, his species took eleven seconds to feel any pain, and so in that short time, he evaded the moves that hadn't yet reached him. "You're doing great, Slowpoke! We can do this!" Alice called, and the little cheer warmed his heart. They would become friends again, in sync again - he had to prove that he could protect her, make up for whatever had happened so long ago. He struck out with another fire blast. Water Sport would be useless if it evaporated off his fur as quickly as the Buizel used it.

Buizel was forced to lunge aside to dodge the powerful flames that threatened to burn it. Landing on it's hands and flipping over, showing great agility and dexterity, it released another SonicBoom, hoping to finish this fast, and wondering at the same time why the Slowpoke hadn't succumbed yet.

It was no surprise why Slowpoke had yet to fall, determined to win as he was. He had the strength to move boulders, he had swam miles to rejoin his old human friend and years of experience on this Buizel. He was tougher than he looked. He unleashed another Fire Blast, trying to break though the other attack and catch the water-type that way. His opponent was cowardly, not daring to come in close, and Alice was getting antsy. There was a pier to get to, and she was tempted to call things off and just walk away.

A frown furrowed the Buizel's face. The Fire Blast enveloped it's SonicBoom, and due to the power of it, continued forward, although significantly weakened. As the searing flames licked at Buizel's now dry skin, it tch'ed. It was hoping for both attacks to collide and be considered null and void. Apparently not so. Even though it had a resistance to fire, it had already lost quite some energy and stamina from bounding around and avoiding hits.

Atleast it's health was intact. Ruffling itself up, it dashed forward faster than the eye could follow. Quick Attack. Easy. Swiftness on the Buizel's side, and slow sluggishness on the Slowpoke's side. It had apparently not calculated what the attack was putting itself in range for.

"Yes!" When the attack landed, Alice couldn't help but cheer and punch up through the air. Finally, they were getting somewhere. Sonic Boom wasn't the strongest of attacks, thankfully, but there was no doubt that both parties were probably feeling weary. Quick Attack was a sure fire hit, but they didn't need to avoid it. "Remember what I said before! Use your Strength!" She called. Slowpoke braced himself, waiting for the orange blur to come up close before colliding with all his might, hoping to use the light weight and the speed of the other's attack against it.

Buizel's pupils dilated. The strong attack rammed into it, tossing it high into the air. Crashing at least 15 feet away, it staggered to it's feet. That single attack hurt more than it expected. And more than it should have. It bared it's teeth and snarled savagely at the Slowpoke, nose serrulated in continuous spasms, eyes furrowed and frowned, pupils dilated. Tail whipping and lashing back and forth, it flipped over again and released another Sonicboom.

"We almost have it! Just keep trying, you know what to do now!" It was slowing, and it obviously wasn't quite right, but neither was Slowpoke. Her beloved shook his head, ears and tail and whole body twitching once the eleven seconds of pain kicked in. Slowpoke was dizzy. The sonic boom didn't help with that, "Just hold on! Wait until its next attack!" There was no point trying now, Buizel would only dodge again.

Buizel finally stood still, gasping. Tired beyond measure, it had to take a break. Didn't mean that it wasn't on it's guard. Every second theoopponents wasted in waiting knelt the odds in the Buizel's favour. Every second it recovered some energy. Buizel now looked upon it's adversary with newfound respect. To have held out for so long.

"Get it while it's slow! Use Yawn, and then Fire Blast!" Alice commanded. They were both tired, but there was time for Slowpoke to rest on the boat journey. Besides, his regenerator hidden ability would allow for that even more so in a ball - and a Heal Ball would fix his health right away. Mouth gaping wide, Slowpoke tried to make his enemy drowsy, hoping they could finally finish things off.

Buizel's eyes widened as it quickly tried to evade the move. Too late. Already feeling drowsy, the weasel-like, sleek pokemon knew it only had one more turn before it fell asleep and would be vulnerable to all of Slowpoke's attacks. Trying to make it count, it released another SonicBoom, slashing down hard.

Buizel was feeling drowsy, and as aggressive as it was, that made it slow. Slowpoke was able to see it coming and narrowly amble out of the way, waiting for its opponent to fall asleep. When it finally did, Alice pointed for her Pokemon to go forward, her Pokemon approaching to try and defeat the enemy with his overwhelming Strength.

Buizel already had a sliver of health left. Even a Fire Blast would have taken it down at that point. Flying off by the powerful attack and skiffing to a halt on the gritty, crystallized sand a few meters away, it slowly slipped down into unconciousness.

Slowpoke gained 11 exp!
Slowpoke grew to level 13 with 6 exp remaining!

With the victory sealed, Slowpoke finally let himself switch off and drop, sliding down onto his belly on the sand. Alice cheered, jumping and punching the air as relief swept over her, heart pounding at the closeness of the scuffle. "You were amazing, Slowpoke!" She called to the dual-type, rushing over to scoop him up and cuddle him, nuzzling her nose to his head and cooing sweetly. Slowpoke didn't even bother responding, or perhaps didn't register it. He had conked out.

"We should go. The ship's meant to be here anytime, right?" She asked of Landon. Her run was quirky. With her arms free, it was like a panicking Piplup with its wings out. but even with the Pokemon to her chest it was still whacky. Alice hoisted her bag up her arm and continued making her way to the pier, glad too that they would make it in time. "You must be so tired my lovely little man. I'm so proud of you."

(Since technically it was Ava's plot, I do feel like I'm interfering with it a bit. I have no idea where she intended it to lead. But anyways.)

With a distant foghorn, the ship slowly sailed into sight. Leisurely cruising along, it was exactly on time. Settling into port, the door opened as the plank fell into place. A few people got off and scattered on the island.

Landon silently trudged along behind. Feet sinking into the sand, his gait was slow. "You know, before getting on the ship, you should really bring that Slowpoke of yours to medical attention. That was quite a beating it took from the Buizel..." He suggested.
