Alice Hoffman

Calm, Calculative, Loves to win hard battles, but grows quickly bored if things are too easy. Alice will often start strong with powerful attacks or try and disable the enemy team. Alice loves to use powerful water-type Pokemon.

Alice is 5' 6" and is a skinny, lanky person. Her long straight hair is silver and she has deep piercing blue eyes. Despite being skinny, she is stronger than she looks due to her active swimming life-style. Around her neck she has a small glass bauble filled with two sections of red and white dyed water akin to a Pokeball. Alice wears standard blue jeans and a darkblue tank-top underneath a heavy black trench coat. However, usually she is only wearing a black bikini and bra as most of her days are spent in the ocean.

Alice is a calm, clever and sometimes devious person. She can be nice, but is usually a bored, joyless person that never smiles. She still has a sense of humor, but she will quickly revert back to her calm demeanor. Her only satisfaction comes from training her Pokemon and overcoming challenges, she has little interest in other things. Her food preferences are more or less narrow, disliking all forms of fish and dairy products. She however has expensive tastes and enjoys food made with care and various spices whenever possible. She has a weakness for sweets, particularly chocolate. She has a profound sense of justice, but not one that anyone would be familiar with since she would not care working with criminals or breaking the law so long as no harm was brought to anyone around her.

Alice was born in Cianwood, a small isolated town off the coast of Jhoto near the Whirl Islands. Her mother was from Kanto while her father had lived in Cianwood all his life, only meeting her mother at a young age as a Pokemon Trainer. Her father wasn't at all skilled, and had not earned a single badge despite traveling most of Jhoto, Hoenn and Kanto. However, Alive always used to listen to his stories despite this, and that is why when the family was shaken to it's roots, Alice decided to become a Pokemon Trainer. She had never told her father, but one day she had befriended a Lapras that would often visit her when she would play alone at the beach. She immediately had a deep connection with the water Pokemon, and had began to learn she had a special ability- she could manipulate water and make it float in the air. By the time her father and mother divorced, Alice enrolled herself in a small training academy in Olivine. She said goodbye to her now shallow father. "You are all I have left, Alice." He said to her, but she smiled, replying "I have to have my own adventures some time." She shut the door to her family's house behind her, heading for the docks.

Leaving her family life behind her, at the age of fifteen she learned everything there was to know about Pokemon. While at the academy, she had borrowed a few water Pokemon, which strangely enough she had been able to select at random by sensing their element despite being contained in the familiar red and white capsule. She quickly excelled in her grades and it was only a matter of time before she would graduate..

But there was still another obstacle, another step forward. The dean of the academy was a middle-aged woman by the name of Beletha, one day Alice was called to the dean's office and confronted with something she had never told anyone, but the dean had been able to sense it. "Alice, I know what power you have." She said casually. "There is yet more training for you to do. You will graduate, but I am putting in a recommendation for you to a very special place."

"It will be hard, but you will succeed, and your talents will shine brighter than I know you will without it." The dean then handed her a pass to embark on a journey to a small town she had never heard of. Or rather, another academy for those with special talents as she had. "I've known you were what they call an 'elementalist' and I believe this can be your greatest strength." The dean said. But there was something else. "You are graduating early and will not be attending the ceremony." The dean handed her a graduation certificate which Alice rolled up. "I.." Alice muttered. "Thanks, I guess." She nodded to the dean, who also nodded.

The following day she was in the middle of the sea and all she could see was blue around her. The dean had awaken a curiosity within her and she casually fiddled with a ball of water floating in her hand, twirling it around and throwing it up into the air. She sighed, and as she did the ball of water fell to the deck, spattering like a water balloon.

That was when she met Veman. A young man behind her laughed as the smell of smoke filled Alice's nose. A tall boy with black hair and piercing red eyes held a cigarette between two fingers. "Water, huh?" He said, taking out a lighter. "For me, it's fire!" He pulled on the small mechanism of the canister of fuel and a small flame emerged. It then roared violently and soon Veman had a ball of fire in either hand. "My name is Veman, i'm from Sinnoh!" He exclaimed, laughing as he lit his hair ablaze, though was seemingly unaffected. "Alice," she said. "Might want to cut that out, it looks a bit ridiculous." She said, snickering as she saw two people pointing at him from behind as they also laughed at him behind his back. "So that's what this place is..." Alice muttered.

Veman and Alice hit it off as rivals from that day forward. Much like the previous academy, Pokemon were only borrowed, but she still found time to spend with Lapras, whom had followed her all this way, to Flinton Island in the Minoru Region. There, she learned to control her ability and the days seemed to pass, many surpassed her unlike her days at the training academy. But Veman was falling behind in his studies, but seemed to improve whenever Alice would battle him, though she would always win since fire was weak to water and Veman could not understand that. Despite Veman's idiocy, Alice slowly began to like him. But it was only a matter of time before they were destined to head separate ways, but Veman's path was one that there was no coming back from.

Two years, the day of graduation. Everyone had been given a Pokeball and tasked to find one Pokemon on the island that best represents themselves and capture it. Alice knew where she would go, headed to the coast while Veman headed to the center of the island. As expected, Alice encountered Lapras. Lapras already seemed to know what to do, bowing to her as she opened the red and white capsule and sucked the water Pokemon inside. She had already earned this friend over the years, and she need not even ask.

But as she turned, she noticed smoke coming from the Volcano. Assuming it must be Veman, she decided she would meet up with him, but what she found was only tragedy. There was a cave-in. And Veman was supposedly inside.

Nobody found the body, but then again the cave was completely collapsed. This moment changed Alice forever, all her hardships had come to this- tragedy. Her graduation ceremony was not a happy place, grim faces abound and even the teachers of the academy seemed to remain silent as the ceremony was conducted with sorrow.

She vowed that she would never have a friend she would let out of her sight again. Her only true friends were her Pokemon.

This was her resolve, as she sailed for Olivine to embark on her true adventure, as a trainer competing to enter the Pokemon League.
