Jay is a very lean, skinny guy standing at five foot nine and not done growing yet. His hair can range from blonde to dirty blonde and is usually kept unkempt and ruffled. Jay normally sports a long sleeved shirt under a short sleeved button up shirt that he always keeps unbuttoned. The long sleeved shirt can vary in color, but usually his short sleeved is red. He also has a blue backpack he carries his stuff in. He wears a pair of red running shoes. Jay switches between a pair of shorts or a pair of jeans regularly. He also has warmer clothing for the winter months. Jay has bright, protuberant silver blue eyes and a clear face with sharp angular features that give him a look somewhere between boyish and mature.

Personality: Jay is a  calm guy. He can be a bit like an old man in the sense he likes to take things real slow. He enjoys life and never takes a moment of it for granted. He cares deeply for his Pokemon and human friends as well as his family and is incredibly loyal. He is also very ambitious and wants to become better than anyone in his family. He wants to become a Pokemon master and beat the elite four of each region. However, he also wants. to travel the world just as much. He isn't one to rush the process and is the kind of guy who will take his journey slowly on purpose. Jay is caring, loyal and ambitious. He hates being looked down upon,  yet he's also not hot-headed by any stretch of the imagination.  In fact he tends to be rather chilled, calm and in many cases a  bit  lazy. He is dedicated to his Pokemon and training and works hard to get stronger. He always keeps his Pokemon in mind and almost never takes action until he thinks things through. He is a strategist. At the same time, Jay tends to be playful with his Pokemon and almost never takes life too seriously, something that got on some of his family members nerves. Jay greatly values knowledge and is always craving to learn more. He knows an excessive amount about Pokemon and knows the ins and outs of most Kanto Pokemon thanks to his mother. Jay loves to play with Pokemon. He always walks with Growlithe and often plays frisbee while on the go with Growlithe. It isn't uncommon for Jay to randomly stop and lay down to simply look at the clouds as if it were more important than getting to the next town. Jay also enjoys the company of others and things as simple as just talking. But he also enjoys peace and quiet. 
 
History: Jay was born the fifth of six children to renown breeder Lily McKinney and Pokemon Trainer Thomas McKinney. His parents had lots of talent in their fields and their talent passed on to their children. Their firstborn Caitlyn went on to beat the Elite Four in Kanto, their second child Kyle became a Pokemon research assistant after being a Pokemon Trainer for some years and their third child Carl became a great trainer currently traveling Kanto taking the Gym Challenge. Their fourth child Mike was always a 'prodigy' when it came to Pokemon, though this caused him to become quite cocky and led to him making many mistakes in battle. He didn't hone his raw talent to something better. Jay himself was born in the same year as Mike, eleven months apart. 
Jay grew up in the shadow of his overachieving family and was always looked at as the little kid and a big softy. His father always wanted to harden him more as Jay always seemed too soft. But Jay's mother liked him just the way he was and taught him the basics of Pokemon Breeding including how to make Pokemon food and gave him an excessive knowledge of Kanto Pokemon while he helped with her breeding. He ultimately decided he wanted to be a trainer though. He always wanted to travel the world and he wanted to accomplish that goal so he would as a trainer. 

When Jay was seven his mother's Growlithe's egg finally hatched and as a present for all of his help, his mother gave him the baby Growlithe. For a long time it was little more than a house pet as Jay was young when he got Growlithe, but when he got older he began training her. The years passed and the time came when Jay was twelve and should've been off with Mike on a Pokemon journey, however, a surprise came when Jay's mother became pregnant halting their plans. They couldn't afford to just go running off on an adventure at such a time. Jay had to pick up some of his mothers slack with her breeding and helping around the house and Mike had to get a part time job, not that he ever stopped reminding everyone what he was doing for them. He was rather selfish. Eventually the sixth of the McKinney children was born and the baby was a girl. Still Mike and Jay needed to stay for another year before actually starting their adventure, though that didn't deter Jay from training Growlithe. Finally the day would come when they received their Pokedex from Professor Oak after traveling to Pallet town and the adventure began. Of course Mike ran off ahead treating it as a competition. But not Jay. No. He was a bit like an old man. He likes to take things slow.
