The Challenge: Oreburgh

Kyu looked around. Finally, after traveling all day through Mount Coronet, he had arrived at Oreburgh City, where the newest Gym Leader, Roark, had his gym. The problem is, he thought, I only have one Pokemon, and while Ralts is strong, it won't be able to take out all of Roark's Pokemon. I need to capture another.
After looking around for a while, he was just about to give up when a wild _________ appeared.

A wild Dwebble appeared out from some bushes.

It seemed somewhat angry, and pointed at the ground by Kyu's feet. There were some crushed berries where the Dwebble pointed; obviously meaning that Kyu had accidentally stepped on the Dwebble's lunch.[img]

Kyu paused for a moment, trying to read the Dwebble's aura with his new-found skills. A moment later, he winced as he realized what had happened. "Sorry Dwebble. I didn't mean to, I promise." At the same time, Kyu was thinking, this could be a perfect opportunity to capture a Pokemon. "Come on out, Ralts!" he called. "Hit it with a Psyshock!"

The Psyshock hit Dwebble successfully, but it only seemed to anger it even more. Dwebble let loose an X-Scissor and charged for Kyu's Ralts.

"Quick Ralts, use Double Team!" Ralts instantly split into several copies, and while the Dwebble destroyed some of them, it missed Ralts. "Now use Ice Punch!" he cried out. Ralts and its many copies instantly charged at the Dwebble, trying to weaken it for the capture.

The Ice Punch landed and was super-effective. The Dwebble managed to barely hold on by dodging some of the copies. It fumed, now weaker but angry. It dug its claws into the ground, digging up some rocks. Using these rocks, Dwebble unleashed Rock Blast.

Kyu smiled, knowing that the Dwebble was now weak enough for capture. "Ralts, use Teleport!" he commanded. Ralts disappeared, dodging the Rock Blast, and reappeared next to Kyu's side. Kyu brought out a Poke Ball, and threw it at the Dwebble, hoping to capture it.

The Pokeball rattled back and forth, eventually coming to a stop as the Dwebble gave up.

Kyu went over to the Poke Ball and picked it up, feeling a rush of pride that he had caught a Pokemon. He motioned Ralts over and held out the Poke Ball. "Ralts, say hello to our new teammate! Now we really are ready to challenge a Gym Leader!" At that moment, Kyu felt like he could do anything.

After a short stop at the Pokemon Center to heal his Pokemon, Kyu stepped into the Oreburgh Gym. He took a Poke Ball off of his belt, and called into the darkness. "Roark, I challenge you to a Gym Battle!"

A young man with brown hair and black glasses stepped up to the battleground from the shade some rocks provided. He seemed to be wearing a yellow hard hat with a PokeBall symbol on it.
"A challenger? Perfect timing! I was starting to wonder if anyone would show up."
The young man said, now obviously the Gym Leader, Roark. He took out a PokeBall, then said,
"Get ready to have a battle, kid! I'll send out my Pokemon first!"
Opening the capsule and letting the Pokemon inside out, Roark prepared himself for the battle. His first Pokemon was an Onix.

Kyu smiled, and threw the Poke Ball he had in his hand, revealing Ralts. "Well, you have not been disappointed." he said. "You may make the first move."

Just then, a girl wearing a blue cape and a blue silk top hat burst into the gym, shouting,
"I want to challenge the gym leader!" when she noticed that Kyu and Roark were already battling.
"Whoops. Am I interrupting a battle? My bad."
She said, smiling, and she was obviously slightly embarrassed. Roark laughed and told her to come back another time. However, the girl shook her head and said she wanted to watch, so she plopped down on the seats by the battleground and sat a Pikachu on her lap. The Pikachu was wearing a red vest with a white button-down underneath and a blue tie. It sighed at its trainer's actions, but seemed not to care too much.
"Okay, are you ready, challenger? I'll start this fight! Onix! Use Rock Blast!"
Roark commanded his rocky friend, and the Onix nodded. It hurled a large rock at the Ralts in hopes of a successful hit.

Kyu gave the girl a strange look before bringing his focus back on the battle. "Ralts, use Teleport to dodge the attack!" he commanded. The little green and white Psychic type glowed white before disappearing, causing the Rock Blast to miss. Ralts reappeared hovering behind Onix. "Quick, use Ice Punch!" Kyu yelled.

"Onix! Use Iron Tail!"
Roark hoped that the move would cancel out Ice Punch and Onix would be unharmed. The rocky snake flicked its tail for a split moment to use Iron Tail. It aimed for the Ralts with full determination.

Caught by surprise, Ralts got hit with the Iron Tail, sending it flying across the room. Before it could hit the ground though, it caught itself with psychic power.
"Ralts, use our Double Team/Ice Punch combo!" Kyu cried.
Ralts nodded, and split into several copies. Then, their fists glowing with an ice-white light, they charged at the huge Rock Snake, determined to hit it this time.

"That's won't work on us!"
Roark said, smirking. He looked at his Onix, flicked his hand two times then pointed at the many Ralts.
"Onix! Rock Blast! Go!"
The Onix hurled many rocks at the Ralts. There were so many, the smoke was too thick to see through. As the smoke settled, Roark waited patiently, but was alert. He couldn't let his guard down.

Kyu smiled. Of the many trainers he had fought, none of them had given him a challenge besides his mentor, the Hearthome Gym Leader Fantina. Yet here he was, with his best tactics either being blocked or deflected. This is turning out to be really interesting, he thought.
"Ralts, use Double Team and Ice Punch once more!" he shouted. Out of the dust cloud, Ralts and its many copies lunged towards Onix's head. Kyu hoped that in the smoke, Onix wouldn't be able to tell which one was the real Ralts, and he would finally land a hit.

Roark anticipated that Ralts wasn't knocked out yet, so he told Onix to use Rock Blast again, but this time, he told Onix to spin while using the move. This way, rocks flew in every direction, but missed the people in the room. Onix was able to control them to only hit the battlefield. I bet that this kid won't be expecting this! Roark thought.

Kyu smiled. Roark's strategy had indeed taken him by surprise, but he knew that Ralts was agile enough and that there were too many copies for Roark to know which one was real. Ralts was unharmed by the Rock Blast, and came up behind Onix's head. Lunging at Onix with another Ice Punch, Kyu was confident that the Rock Snake would be unable to dodge or block the attack.

The Ice Punch only nicked Onic's side, as Roark commanded it to use Rock Polish, causing its Speed stat to increase by two levels. As a result, Onix became faster than usual, but was still unable to completely dodge Ralts's attack.
"Now, Onix! Use Wrap! Then, use Iron Tail!"
Roark yelled. The snake-like Pokemon executed the orders quickly, and tried to wrap its body around the small enemy.

"Ralts, use Teleport!" Kyu commanded. The small Psychic type disappeared from Onix's rock hard coils. Unfortunately, it Teleported right into the path of the incoming Iron Tail, taking a direct hit.
Kyu reached out with his aura powers to find Ralts at half power. He winced inwardly; at this rate, he would lose the battle. Thats why I need to fight even harder, he thought. Opening his eyes, he yelled, "Ralts! Use a Psyshock followed by an Ice Punch!"
Ralts complied, firing a wave of psychic energy at Onix before darting in with an ice-cold fist

"Onix! Use Rock Polish and dodge both attacks!"
Roark shouted. The Pokemon nodded obeidiently, and began to shine, showing that it was using Rock Polish. The shine disappeared and Onix's speed increased dramatically. Its eyes shined, and it dodged the two oncoming attacks, and then unleashed another Iron Tail on the Ralts. Roark could almost jump up and shout, "Yes!" at the result he foresaw. Just then, the girl from before shouted, "Look out, Ralts!"

Kyu, expecting at least one attack to hit, was again surprised by Roark's strategy. The Iron Tail would have knocked out Ralts had the girl not warned him, allowing him to dodge the attack. This speed boost is getting to be a problem, Kyu thought, smirking. So why don't we match it?
"Ralts, use Psych Up!" Kyu commanded. Ralts glowed with a purple light, focusing on Onix while copying the speed boost it had gotten from Rock Polish. "Quick, use your newly found speed to hit it with an Ice Punch!" Kyu yelled. Once again, Ralts' fist glowed an ice white, and it used its new speed boost to zoom over at Onix. Surely, Kyu thought, it can't dodge this again?

The Ice Punch was successful, and the Onix collapsed to the ground, its eyes beginning to show fatigue. Roark smiled at the smart boy, but then looked slightly annoyed at the girl. The girl smiled, and giggled a little, then said,
"Sorry about that! It was reflex! Besides, this battle is fun to watch! I wouldn't want it to be over already!"
Roark smiled when he heard that. This girl would be a fun challenger.
"Onix! I know that you're still a bit weak, but we can do this! Use Rock Polish again!"

Kyu glanced at the girl as well, his face an expressionless mask. After I'm done here, I think I'll watch her battle with Roark (I can take over as Roark if you want for that). It might be interesting, and then I can see just how good she is.
Noticing the Onix start to speed up again with Rock Polish, Kyu yelled, "Not so fast! Ralts use Psyshock before it speeds up again!"
Ralts quickly fired a blast of psychic energy at the Rock Snake, hoping to hit it before it could move.
