Let's do this

The sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky as Thomas soared towards Littleroot Town, the wind whipping through his hair. He was currently flying on his mother's Skarmory, with his father tagging along on a Fearow a little ways behind. His mother was sitting behind him, making sure he didn't try to do anything stupid like jump off. As if he'd do something like that...then again, if he survived it would be pretty coold wouldn't it? As if reading his mind, his mother's grip around his waist tightened, and just like that the idea was gone and Tom relaxed, merely enjoying the ride.

His mother pointed, shouting something indistinct that he could barely hear over the sound of the wind and Skarmory's flapping, “WHAT?!” He shouted.

“I SAID, YOU CAN SEE LITTLEROOT NOW!” She screamed back, fighting to make herself heard. Indeed, in the distance the young trainer could see a small town. A shiver ran down his back as he looked, Littleroot Town, the beginning of his adventure as a trainer, he couldn't wait for them to land! Within a few minutes they did land, and the only thing that kept Thomas from dashing off for the lab straight away was the fact that this might be the last time he saw his parents for a good long time.

His mother and father walked forward, the two flying types waiting behind them. Samantha went first, hugging her son tightly, “Be sure to take good care of yourself and your pokemon. Make sure you eat right and feed Torchic regularly. Also, be sure to call at least once a week from the Pokemon centers.”

Thomas hugged her back, but couldn't help but blurting out, “His name's Baron Blaze mom, come on.” His mother laughed and released him, stepping back as Antonio moved forward.

Antonio merely gripped his son's hand in a firm handshake, “Well son, good luck to you, having gone down a parody of this path I can give you one word of advice. Catch every pokemon you can and battle every person in sight.” With that Antonio walked back, climbing onto his Fearow as Samantha climbed onto her Skarmory. With a last wave the pokemon took off, dimly Thomas heard his mother saying something but couldn't quite make it out.

With his parents gone Thomas started jumping up and down, running around in tiny circles before finally getting the presence of mind to approach the lab. However, first he let Baron Blaze out of his pokeball, this was the kind of thing that a trainer should do with his pokemon. The tiny fire-type let out a happy “Torchic!” and danced around a bit. “You ready to do this Baron Blaze!?” Thomas asked, squatting down and holding his hands in a sumo style pose. The Torchic gave another louder cry, “Then lets do this!” Thomas shouted, turning on his heel and running straight into the building. Immediately inside he shouted, “THOMAS HERNANDEZ, SOON-TO-BE TRAINER EXTRAORDINARE REPORTING FOR DUTY SIR!” As he spoke he suddenly stopped, snapping off a military salute to noone in particular. In fact, his every bearing from his expression to his posture would give off the impression of someone who actually was military, he was an amazing actor.

Thomas immediately did an immediate Right Face, now facing his challenger directly. However, his face was no longer in a military poker expression. Right now his face was lit up in incredible excitement. He wasn't even registered as a pokemon trainer yet, in fact he didn't even have a pokedex yet and already someone was challenging him! This was amazing! It was incredible! It was a mind-numbing phantasm of fantastic fantasticness!

"YOU'VE GOT YOURSELF A BATTLE!" The young man yelled at the top of his lungs, Torchic moving forward and glaring at the Ace Trainer, daring him to release his pokemon.

A Mudkip it seemed that Thomas' first battle was going to be with him at a serious disadvantage. A thrill of fear ran through his frame, that could be visibly seen in chattering knees, could his Torchic handle such a challenge? Baron Blaze certaindly didn't seem to feel such intimidation and gave a hearty, "TORCHIIIIC!" As if roaring in defiance, albeit a very high-pitched and tiny roar of defiance.

Immediately Tom's fear was banished by Baron Blaze's fearless display. "Torchic, use Focus Energy!" That was the basis of Thomas' POWER UP!! strategy of combat, where the user's pokemon enhanced their abilities or attacks before attacking.

"I have no idea why you would do that at this stage.."
He shrugged.
"Mudkip use water gun!!"
Mudkip sent out a blast of water, running straight to Torchic.

A WATER GUN!! This was bad, but Thomas couldn't say he hadn't expected it! He shouted out the first thing that came to his mind, which didn't seem to make much sense, "BARON BLAZE, DO A BARREL ROLL!!" He shouted, basically telling the Torchic to dodge.

Immediately Baron Blaze started moving, but he just wasn't fast enough to avoid the water gun completely. The blast of water collided with Baron Blaze's right side, knocking it aside, the super-effective technique doing serious damage to the Fire-type. However, Baron Blaze picked himself up, wincing in pain. Thomas clenched his fists, this was their only chance to do at least some damage to this stranger of greater-power-than-Thomas. "BARON BLAZE, USE SCRATCH!!" As the Torchic rushed forward to scratch at the Mudkip with his talons, Tom could only hope that Focus Energy paid off.

The trainer grinned. When the Torchic hit mudkip, causing damage, but stood on it's feet. Mudkip grinned and used watergun close up!

Baron Blaze was pushed backwards by the point-blank Water Gun, the damage such that he couldn't even make the pretense of trying to get up. As Thomas reflected upon his loss he could think of only two syllables to describe what had just happened.

He'd lost, not an entirely unexpected outcome, but, "Baron Blaze, return." Thomas said, the Torchic disappearing back into his pokeball.

"See ya round trainer"
The trainer grinned, and walked out.

Thomas took the Pokedex, a fierce and mighty determination mixed with a raging rage swelling in his breast. Now he was a trainer, capable of catching pokemon and learning more about them. He would train his pokemon and make them millions of times stronger then that mysterious trainer who had so soundly trounced him and Baron Blaze. HE WAS GOING TO DO IT!!...but first, "Thanks, now where can I get Baron Blaze fixed up?"

"You can see a pokemon center, in the next town, we'll get to that later"
He took 3 pokeballs, and 3 potions from his bag.
"You keep these, they will come in great use later on"
You recieved 3 and 3 from Prof. Oak!
Prof. Oak turned to Prof.Birch's scientist. "Take the boy to the next city, and show him the pokemon center, showing him how to battle and catch a pokemon, would be great" He smiled


"Right, Sir!" He turned to Thomas "Follow me" He began walking out.

Thomas looked at the scientist with interest, so this man was going to be showing him the ropes eh? HOW WONDERFULLY EXCITING! The trainer eagerly followed the scientist, practically trodding on his heels.

The scientist led him to a patch of grass. "Here, you will encounter many wild pokemon.." He sent out a Breloom!
"From here, a pokemon will come if it wants to, if not you're just going to be patient"
He looked around.
A Zigzagoon jumped from a bush and used Tackle at Breloom! Breloom dodged swiftly. "You should always be aware for surprises like that one" He kept on giving tips. "Breloom, False Swipe!" Breloom used false swipe at Zigzagoon!
Zigzagoon was hit, and was left with very little HP. Zigzagoon, outclassed, stepped back. "Before throwing your pokeball, mkae sure you drop their HP down so they wont escape. My False Swipe was to wrap it up, since any other move might just defeat it, making it unable to catch" He watched, observed the Zigzagoon. "For your case, it is best you paralyse it for a better chance" Breloom used Stun Spore!
The Zigzagoon was hit and paralysed.
"Now you throw the pokeball!" He threw a pokeball at the Zigzagoon!
The Zigzagoon was caught!
