Which of these versions has your favorite Starter in all of the Series?

OK, let's face it, we all love our Starter Pokemon. Those cute little companions that help us start our Journey and are with us from the start of our adventure to the very end, growing with us when we start out as some novice, no-name trainer from a small little town in the middle of nowhere, all the way to Regional Champion and Pokemon Master. We've had many adventures, seen many Pokemon, and had chosen many different starters as well as built many different teams depending on what Starter we chose. Now, the question needs to be asked, out of all the different version Starters we've chosen over the years, which version had your favorite Starter? Please not only vote on which version had your favorite starter, but also make a post as to why. I had to list the versions due to the fact the Maximum number of Poll options only go up to 10, and there are more Starter Pokemon than that.

Black2 and White2 aren't listed due to the fact you have all three Starters, so you didn't have to choose. The side games aren't mentioned either since they aren't official versions, so no Colosseum or XD: Gale of Darkness.

Mine, personally, was Emerald, due to the Mudkip chain. He's such a cute little thing, and the two types he has makes him a very good Pokemon to use as well. Granted Blaziken became even more awesome with the Speed Boost ability, but I still have a soft-spot for Mudkip.

Why? Because Blaziken be pimpin mah roster and Sceptile has a tree for a tail. End of story. For any arguments or reasons why youd be wrong otherwise, check my signature

I have to admit that I've yet to play all of the games so far. My experience is mostly with Gen 3 on down. The only exception is SoulSilver, my current game, and even then is a Gen 2 remake. I favor the fire type so probably cyndaquil. His line is the only pure fire type in all three evolutions. I own Pearl but yet to play it. B&W have yet to be bought.

I start at red, and stay there (if we talk about Starters) my first Starter was and allways be Bulbasaur, i love Venusaur, plain and simple, i allways pick the grass type pokemon, however i will make an exception this case in pokemon Y just to play with Bulbasaur once more, after all, my cousin allready pick chespin, so i just can ask for it later :D

I would have to say Yellow for I love Pikachus :D

I vote for R/S/E. Blaziken all the way. Dude learns a wide variety of moves. A killing machine.

Whoa lets slow this down for a second. Coliseum and Gale of Darkness may have been spin-offs, but you could still trade around with the 3rd Generation games for the Gameboy Advance/SP. You can say they don't count, but they count far more than the other spin-offs because you can trade with these games. So don't say just because their spin-offs they don't count for something. Also, I happened to have played White 2 and no where did I have all three starters.

Now I need to break down each Generation of starters for myself.

Gen 1 was certainly most peoples starting point, but it wasn't as aesthetically pleasing as the later S/G/C, R/S/E, or FR/LF. Because I was someone who started around Gen 3 because I did not own a portable console until the Gameboy Advance, and my sister did not like me playing her Blue. Though I certainly did play her Blue often and I enjoyed it, I can't say I'm a particular fan towards any of the three starters of this Gen.

Gen 2. I loved Gen 2. You have Cyndaquil, Totodile, and Chikorita. The only full trio of starter Pokemon who remain to have one sole type throughout the game. Sure you could pick Cyndaquil or Totodile for an easy play, but why not challenge yourself by taking the grass-type against a Flying-Type gym, a Bug-Type gym. And lets not forget about Miltank. Specifically Whitney's. Over I think it was the design of the three basic starters that I fell in love with, but it's not my favorite generation.

Gen 3 is where I started playing Pokemon. Now I loved Gen 3 but it's not my favorite in terms of starter Pokemon. I like the features, the hidden bases and breeding mechanics that were added. But to say that Torchic, Mudkip, and Treecko are my favorite is wrong. I was never a fan of Treecko because I would get so frustrated looking back on using Mudkip or Torchic, and the internet ruined Mudkip for me. Torchic, well, let's just say that I lost my love for that cute little chicken.

Gen 4 is, in many peoples view one of the worst generations of Pokemon. And I won't argue, in fact I'll agree sometimes. However, the starters here are my favorite. I genuinely like the designs of all three starter evolution lines, and even though yes, it was a Fire/Fighting monkey, a Water/Steel Emperor Penguin, and a Grass/Ground Lion Turtle(Yes I just went there), I found that the starters were rather balanced in terms of additional type. Sure they can still steamroll the other with one type of move, but it's a more balanced look at the types and it pleases me for some odd reason. I know that I said in my Gen 3 paragraph about how I lost my love and all that, but another reason was because of Treecko lacking a second type didn't please me as much as when I looked at Gen 4.

Can we just pretend that most of Gen 5 didn't actually happen? Look I've got nothing against it's Trubbish but it was complete Garbador to see all the complaints people had about it. I enjoyed my first play of it because it had been a while since a Pokemon game challenged me to think about my team's composition. Even picking a starter was hard for me, I had to test out each one before I settled with Snivy, and later to never use Snivy again after the Ground-Type Gym. It certainly wasn't the most pleasing Gen for me in terms of starter Pokemon.

Anyway, if you want to apply TL;DR to the above, here is a shorter version of it.

1. Generation 4 - The type match-up pleased me and showed a well balance.
2. Generation 3 - The first generation I owned. Sentimental value.
3. Generation 2 - The appearance of the three starters is too cute for me to deny.
4. Generation 5 - I did not particularly enjoy this generation of starters. However I enjoyed having to make a reasonable choice geared towards a team composition.
5. Generation 1 - Compared to the later generations, these starters simply didn't have any value to me. Granted yes, I love Pikachu but I never played Pokemon Yellow.

i'd have to say R/B bulbisour was my favorite then charmander then squrtle
