Name: Hamata Roshi
Nickname: Sage, Veteran, Thousand Year Trainer
Age: 90
Gender: Male
Rank: Trainer
Birthplace: Kanto
Battle Style: He is very stubborn and sticks to the old ways, so he often sticks to using only one Pokemon. He is very tricky, and rather harsh.
Looks: Personality: Hamata is a very cold person. He is very harsh to people, generally acting in a manner people would describe as bitter. He cares not for the feelings of others, but is also a wise person that freely dispenses knowledge upon others. He is harsh towards the new generation of trainers and to a great deal of people younger than him because he feels he knows better than they do.
He has a tight bond with his Snorlax, and would never even use another Pokemon besides it. His bond with his Snorlax is so tight that, if he felt it was necessary, he would take lethal blows for his Snorlax. He is very set in his ways, and is not liable to change for anyone. He looks down on children that are given trainer status, believing them to be naive. He feels that Pokemon training has become much more friendly and safe, too much so in fact. He feels that with how things are now, trainers don't develop as deep bonds with their Pokemon as they did back in his day.
He does not hold back against anyone, no matter their age or experience. He dislikes young Trainers who believe in such selfish things as strength or weakness, or how knowing a specific move makes them think they are of some worth, when in his eyes, they are lower than dirt. When he teaches, he is often direct, blunt, and to the point, no matter how harsh he might be.
He believes the time when he was a strapping young trainer was much harsher and tough than it is now, and that without the harshness and potentially life-threatening experiences, as well as the new age limit on things, it creates lack-luster, mediocre trainers and naive, empty-minded punks. Nothing disgusts him more than an arrogant trainer, those who abuse Pokemon, or those who use Pokemon to commit crimes.
He approves of those who actually take the time to listen to him and whatever advice he imparts on them. He believes that, at his age, he can say whatever he wishes because how harsh his life was when he was a Pokemon Trainer entitles him to it. He believes being a trainer is something entitled to those who can handle it, rather than allowing just any snot-headed brat or arrogant punk to become one.
He believes that safety and softer regulations have ruined the hardwork ethic and the character developing of trainers, which, in turn, cripples them. He dislikes stupidity, foolishness, and naivety, to the point of downright mean-spirited and cruel to people like that. He feels doing that is necessary to wake them up to the harsh reality of life and training, and to not do that would be a sign of him failing in his duty as a fellow trainer.
He holds a deep fondness for sweets and spicy foods. He dislikes sour stuff, as well as anything bitter. He likes to drink tea, but dislikes coffee. He usually prefers long journeys to getting somewhere quick, as it allows him to just relax and enjoy life in a much better way than if he was to hurry himself along to get where he needs to go.
He is often rather impatient and snappish to others, holding a bit of a sarcastic streak. While he won't physically strike someone, unless they did something so heinous so as to deserve it, he is not above having his Pokemon harshly whip a lesson into them. He approves of those who do whatever they have to in order to win, so long as it doesn't involve immoral, or illegal, acts.
He believes that the only way of truly bonding with your Pokemon is to survive with them, live with them, take debilitating wounds for them, and even risk your life for them. A true bond between Trainer and Pokemon will involve going through the most impossible, life-threatening, daunting and most scarring of tasks all for the sake of your Pokemon. Pokemon are not pets or weapons, they are your partners, and only the things he has been through would ever cause the building of a true bond, which he feels no one else has gone through.
History: Hamata Roshi was born in a small village that Celadon City stood today, called Harmony Village. He was born to two parents, neither of which were trainers. As a young infant, he was spoiled rotten by his parents, and was given everything someone of his young age could ever want.
His father, Oroko Roshi, was a strict military general that had enlisted at a time where there was a massive war between the different regions. He was a cold, professional, distant person that happened to also be a private person, only showing affection and the like when he was alone with his family.
His mother, Kin Roshi, was both a doctor for humans, and Pokemon. She was a sweet woman that doted on him and had taught him how to best treat himself, and any Pokemon he might get later on in life. She was a tough woman in terms of willpower, and was not afraid of anything when it came to her family.
At the time, Pokemon Trainers were serious, mature adults, because at the time, there wasn't an official court system or law enforcement, what with all the regions being too engulfed in war to worry about any inward problems. Trainers served in the military with their Pokemon, and were treated with scorn if they were found lacking to be both a trainer, as well as a soldiers.
Hamata Roshi was brought up learning about Pokemon Trainers, as well as the military, and was trained from a young age in those departments. He was knocked out of any fantasies he might have by his father, who harshly told them the harsh truth of reality and why he needed to be serious if he wanted to be a trainer.
At the time, Hamata didn't understand why he had to be serious about it, but a tragic event had later woke him up to things. His mother, who ran a small time clinic for humans and Pokemon alike, had been murdered by an enemy soldier's rapid Charizard and her clinic burned to the ground.
Ever since then, he had been quiet and reserved, taking things so seriously he trained hard, and studied obsessively. Throughout the remaining years of his young life, that was all he did, never bothering to focus on things like playing and pretending, as he thought such things would never get him anywhere.
As he became an adult, he had enlisted into service of the army, and had become an official trainer, being handed a Munchlax and told to train him hard, or he would be stripped on his new partner and dishonorably discharged. So, that was exactly what he did, he and his partner trained hard.
His precious Munchlax and himself had fought throughout the entirety of the war side by side, gaining scar after scar, fatal injury after fatal injury and always managing to come out of it alive, this time much tougher than before. They had even fought in a battle that would seal the deal for their friendship.
He was tasked with stopping any enemies from getting into Kanto via Mount Silver, and he had made his home on the top of that mountain with his Munchlax, nearly dying from the harshness of the mountain, but always managing to cling to life and survive together through absolutely whatever means were necessary for them.
It was near the end of the war at the time, and after beating back any and all enemy trainers and soldiers that attempted to get into Kanto via Mount Silver were pushed back. So far, things seemed to have been going perfectly, and they were going to be able to go home. However, a fateful encounter took place up on that mountain.
The last enemy trainer had come up to Mount Silver, and Hamata had found out this man had a Charizard, and on top of that, it was the very same Charizard and man that had killed his mother. His rage and hatred had taken over, and he and his precious Munchlax fought bravely against the man and his Charizard, but they were being overwhelmed.
The long things went on, the closer they came to losing. Munchlax was on the verge of collapse, and Hamata was close to unconsciousness. Munchlax, both fearful for his partner's life and for his own life, had forced himself to evolve, effectively becoming a Snorlax.
Now that he was newly invigorated, Snorlax and his trainer were filled with new adrenaline, and they managed to not only eliminate the trainer, but put down the Charizard as well. They then fell to the ground, unconscious, and nearly dead. Eventually, they woke up, and tended to their wounds.
After the war ended, Hamata had decided to stay up on Mount Silver, only coming back until there was nothing left for him to accomplish. So, braving the elements with his partner, Hamata had made a permanent home up on that mountain, only coming down when he absolutely had to.
