Jay was having a rather pleasant dream. He and his Pokemon companions were taking on trainer after trainer as he was on his way to Viridian City. They were undefeated. Then, he began to hear barking. He had no idea where it was coming from, but it sounded like two different Pokemon barking at the same time. He rolled over on the bedroll he was sleeping on as the barking slowly pulled him out of his dream. The fire flickered flickered in front of him illuminating the small area he was in. It was the dead of night. Jay struggled to sit up straight as he rubbed his eyes. The barking was still ringing in his ears. He looked ahead of him to see both Houndour and Growlithe barking in the same direction.

"What's wrong you two," Jay asked, "It's the middle of the night." Jay couldn't help but wonder if they were barking at a Pokemon or trainer or whatever it might be. Jay tiredly staggered over to his two companions and bent down into a catchers position in-between them as he pet both of them. The strokes of his hand began to calm them. They were no longer barking, but rather growling now. Jay tried looking in the direction they were looking in, however, all he could see was the darkness of the night. "Is somebody there," Jay called out as he stood up ready in for an attack.

In a rush, something began to attack. In the dark, it was hard to truely identify the foe, but glowing eyes seemed to show it as an oddly large and fierce Rattata. It had enraged and bloodthirsty eyes, and without hesitation it sprung onto Growlithe trying a Bite attack!

"Huh, what is that," Jay said rubbing his eyes. Was he mistaken or did he just see blood thirsty eyes in the darkness. Maybe he was mistaken. Maybe it was a gleam off of something. After all, it was rather dark out. A moment later, his fears were assured when Rattata lunged from the darkness at Growlithe, Her fangs protruding as she tried to land a bite into Growlithe. Growlithe jumped out of the way as Houndour barked, but she wasn't fast enough as Rattata caught her tail in her fangs.

Growlithe howled into the quite night in pain before rapidly wagging her tail to try and make it let go. Then it brought her tail down as hard as she could against the ground. Houndour barked at the Rattata and growled, but seemed to stay out of it. As if it understood that this was now personal between to Growlithe who barked as well. Jay gritted his teeth a bit as he analyzed the situation. Growlithe have amazing smell so she should be able to fight rather well even in the dark if she relied on that and her sharp hearing. But the dark did give them a disadvantage. The Rattata was native to this area and most likely knew the ins and outs of the terrain. Jay took out his Pokedex from his pocket and the electronic voice began to talk. "Rattata," the electronic voice of the Pokedex began, "It searches for food all day. It gnaws on hard objects to wear down its fangs, which grow constantly during its lifetime."

The Rattata didn't like being slammed into the ground one bit. Snarling, he let go of growlithe and stood a few paces back. It what may seem like a grounds for negotiation was actually a trap being set by Rattata. The question was, would they fall for the fein of peace.

Growlithe growled viciously at the Ratttata as it began to circling it. It didn't matter to Growlithe if Rattata wanted peace. Rattata made it personal the moment she latched her jaw onto her tail. The anger glistened in Growlithe's eyes. Jay had never seen Growlithe this angry. It was clear she was offended. Stopping a little in front of the rodent Pokemon, Growlithe's mouth flickered with flame before she spat out a powerful ember attack at her opponent.

Rattata yowled as the flame consumed her body, and she jumped back, away from her opponent. The unplesant smell of burning fur filled the air, and the glint in her eye was the only thing showing her location in the dark night.

Suddenly, the glow of the eyes disappeared in a rush. Rattata was using the cloak of darkness and the speed of her quick attack to make it very hard to dodge.

Jay had to cover his eyes when Growlithe used ember as the fire brightly lit the night. The same sting he got whenever he woke up in the middle of the night and turned on the light hit him in a flash. Before he could even get his eyes readjusted the fire was gone and Rattata was as well. Though, judging by the smell of burning smell and the cry he heard moments ago, he could only assume that Rattata had been hit. Growlithe gave what Jay could only describe as a doggy smirk when Rattata was consumed by her flames. Jay on the other hand didn't much like the smell of cooked Rattata that now wafted through the air. Growlithe's smirk faded into bared canine teeth as Rattata disappeared into the darkness. The only thing that showed where the Rattata was were it's glowing eyes which disappeared in a flash. Growlithe heard Rattata, but not quick enough as she was hit by the enemies quick attack. Growlithe slid back after being hit hard. Stopping herself with her front paws, Growlithe looked angry.

"Growlithe, dig," Jay called knowing Growlithe would use the darkness as well. Growlithe barked back and jumped back into the darkness using it as cover as she quickly dug underground. It was only a few seconds before she was about to come up from underneath Rattata.

Rattata was scanning around in search of Growlithe, nose ever so twitching as she tried to smell her foe out. It usually doesn't occur to look up, or even down for that matter. The ground trembled beneath her feet, and before she could jump out of the way of the sneaky attack, she was hit and sent flying into the air. With a painful thump, she landed back onto the ground, and got to her feet in a daze. Shaking it off, she was obviously weaker, it wouldn't take much to take her out now.

The glint returning to her eyes, it grew even more sharp, she was using Leer.

Houndour barked happily from the sidelines next to Jay as Growlithe emerged from the ground beneath Rattata's feet and the Pokemon went flying. Growlithe seemed happy about her attack hitting as she barked back to Houndour a bit happily. There was a glint in her eyes as she stared back at the enemy Rattata. it was clear that Growlithe was getting cocky. She thought she had won this. That was clear enough. But then the glitn returned to Rattata's eyes and it seemed sharper this time. Houndour began to repeatedly and loudly bark at Rattata as for a moment Growlithe cowered. It was leer. It took Jay a moment to realize it. It was clear that Growlithe's defenses were lowered.

"Growlithe! Close your eyes. Use your sense. Hearing, smell, y'know," Jay called and Growlithe gave an a small yelp back before cringing while she closed her eyes. She began using her other senses. Her nose endlessly sniffing while she sharpened her eyes listening for any movement. Houndour stopped barking as he barred his teeth at the enemy Rattata. Houndour understood. He had to be quite for this to work. "Now when and if Rattata attacks counter and bite!" Jay said. Jay hoped this would work. He didn't want Growlithe getting too hurt. And he wanted to win this battle. Rattata would be his!

Rattata bared her extremely sharp teeth at Growlithe, and rushed forward. Seeing her opponent foolishly cut off what slight vision they had gave her a ton of confidence and boosted her morale. As she reached Growlithe, however, she was helpless against the counter attack. Within a moment her attack was easily stopped, and sharp fangs pierced into her side. She struggled, but went limp in defeat and shame of losing. It was Growlithe's win, and Rattata would be easy to catch.

Jay smiled when he saw Growlithe counter Rattata's attack. Growlithes had amazing senses. It was said once it had a cent it never lost it. Jay Couldn't help but feel overjoyed at the victory, but he wasn't done yet. He still hadn't caught Rattata. Jay reached into his pocket and pulled out a pokeball clicking the middle button to make it normal size. Jay tossed the Pokeball at Rattata and watched. He hoped Rattata would be okay. Sure she had attacked them and all, but she was on there side now. At least if he could catch her. He watched as the Pokemon disappeared from Growlithe's mouth and watched, waiting for the Pokeball to stop shaking. Houndour and Growlithe seemed happy about the victory. They were already playfully jumping on each other and rough housing.

The Pokeball shook once, twice, three times, then with a bing and a flash of red, Rattata was caught.

Rattata was caught! Would you like to give her a nickname?
