Second gym, Second Badge! [Open/Mod]

"Dodge! Then use Taunt, followed by Icy Wind, quick!" Ash counteted. Silver grunted as he used quick attack to ensure he got out of the way of the turtle like grass type and his attacks.

He then began to taunt his opponent by saying very bad things about his mother, then blew a breath of freezing wind across the battle field.

"Use withdraw to avoid that icy wind, Turtwig!" Gardenia called. Her Pokemon did so, though of course, some of those crystals would've invaded through the holes. "Now, use razor leaf again, and absorb!" The gym leader commanded, her Pokemon shooting forth some sharp leaves before attempting to drain Silver of some energy.

Razor leaf had hit. Silver growled angrily before becoming outlined in dark type energy, disappearing then reappearing on either side or behind his opponent before slashing at Turtwig with an arm cloaked in the same dark type energy like the many times he used the move before. Then came Icy Wind at full blast, in the end having effectively dodged Absorb.

Even at the level it was at, Silver was still too quick for him, and the Turtwig was slashed and thrown backwards by icy wind. Crystals of cold stuck to his grass body, and Gardenia urged him to get back up, which he did with some trouble. Given that absorb hadn't worked as well as they had hoped, the gym leader and her Pokemon needed to be cautious. "Use curse, and then tackle!" She ordered. Her Pokemon boosted his stats and then raced forward. He was a bit slower than before, but with heavier attack and defense, they hoped to try and turn the tables. "Corner it with your razor leaf, too, Turtwig!"

"Shadow Ball, then try Ice Shard." Ash sighed. Silver huffed in annoyence before doing as commanded, doing his best to hold his own while also attempting to weaken Turtwig.

It helped that razor leaf had struck, but the attack wasn't the most effective, and that was frustrating for Gardenia. At least the level difference was helping. "Dodge shadow ball, and deflect the icy shards with your razor leaf at full power!" The gym leader ordered. Turtwig haphazardly evaded the first attack, a mighty swirl of many sharp leaves striking out at the icy shards which came close, slicing and dicing them, and sending them off course. "Then again, at Sneasal! Razor leaf!"

"Icy Wind at full power, blow them away." Ash growled. Silver released the breath of freezing baby blue tinted wind immediantly at full force over the battle field, never taking his eyes off of his opponents.

Gardenia grit her teeth, raising her arms together to guard against the freezing gusts. Turtwig was heavy, though, and she told him to endure with his head tucked away and bending low, letting much of the ice rattle over his shell. He managed to stay on the spot, but when the move was done, Turtwig on his last stand. "Use absorb!" She called, the Pokemon beginning to slowly drain energy from Sneasal again, hoping to do enough to try and tip the balance.

Silver was breathing a bit harder then usual as some more of his energy was drained. Ash frowned, eyes narrowing at Gardenia in annoyance.

"Faint Attack, then Icy Wind at full blast." Ash commanded. Silver disappeared and reappeared, outlined in dark type energy once again before being on either side of Turtwig, attempting to slash at his face with claws covered in the same energy then following up with an Icy Wind immediately after it.

Gardenia grit her teeth. She knew that they were done. Turtwig survived the feint attack by the skin of his teeth, but the icy wind actually managed to take the poor thing off his feet, the creature landing shell-side up, unconscious as he rocked on the grass turf. "You did really well, Turtwig. Thanks." She complimented her Pokemon, returning him. Silver had grown by one level!

"Don't think that's the end of the match, though. Go, Cherrim!" She released the second of her three team members, and out forth came a grass type whose body seemed to be squished safe in a cocoon of purple petals, nubby pink feet visible just beneath. A leaf cap sat atop the body, and a round pink circle.

"Use growth, and then finish Turtwig's job with magical leaf!" The gym leader ordered. Pumping up her strength, the level twenty Pokemon then shot forth magical, sharp leaves that would chase Silver until they struck. Gardenia would avenge her Turtwig.

"Faint Attack then Ice Shard, don't give up and be careful!" Ash countered. Silver nodded before disappearing and reappearing on either side of the grass type and releasing sharp shards of ice soon after. Magical Leaf hit right at that moment, causing Silver to hiss. He used Quick Attack to return to Ash's side, barely standing as he glared at both Gardenia and his opponent with a scowl. Ash returned Silver, telling him that he did very good.

He paused, considering his next choice. He has Rose, Piplup, and Chomp. Rose was currently the strongest of the three. But, would it work? Then, any idea came to mind, but his Pokemon would need to stay strong and be careful.

"Chomp, I'm counting on you!" He called, releasing the small dragon type. Chomp gave a low, barely audible growl.

"Sandstorm, followed by Dragon Rage!" Ash commanded, eyes gleaming. This plan had to work. Chomp used both moves in quick succession, his body becoming outlined in an earthy aura as he kicked up sand that started to become a vortex around him before becoming a full on storm. He then shot a small light purple ball of flames at where he last saw his opponent.

"What? Did you think it would be easy?" Gardenia teased, her voice cool. She looked at the Pokemon revealed, and knew that he was at a disadvantage. Cherrim had leveled up from her victory to level 21, and that put a gap of seven between her Pokemon and Gible. Not only that, but dragon and ground attacks would do little to hurt her. He was really pushing his luck.

"Use safeguard!" She ordered, to combat the dragon rage, which seemed to barely phase the flowery thing, "And now use leech seed!" Her Pokemon was buffeted by the sandstorm, but it was extremely weak damage. Tucked away in her petals, it also did nothing to upset Cherrim, who suddenly launched a web of seed out of nowhere, aiming to drain energy from Gible, and to trouble its movements with the sticky, wiry leaves.

"Honestly? No, but it's the best plan I have. Besides, we're not giving up! Chomp, dodge and use Tackle! Be careful." Ash responded with a frown. Chomp nodded, charging forward as Leech seed began to take effect. Chomp decided to take a chance and fire another Dragon Rage at Cherrim's base.

"Wait until it gets close, and then use leech seed!" Gardenia ordered. It didn't matter that Chomp had dodged the first one, because this one would surely hit. As soon as the dragon was in close proximity, Cherrim fired another one to snare it up, enduring the two hits with little problem. "Now, use morning sun!" The gym leader ordered. With the sandstorm raging, it would be less effective, but given how small her injuries were, Cherrim's health was almost full from the healing move! What was Ash going to do now that the tables had turned?! "It looks like you'll need a new plan, Ash!"

Ash clicked his tounge in distaste, telling himself that if he lost he'd definitely had to find a fire type before coming back. He returned Chomp and sent out Rose, who looked a little miffed at being put in a battle of all things.

"You're my last resort." Ash muttered only for Rose to hear, "Alright Rose, use Mega Drain!" He called out. Rose nodded before pointing one of her flowers at her opponent and began to try to steal most of their health.

"A Roserade, huh?" Gardenia mused, surprised to see that Ash had returned his second Pokemon. "You know, I still have Pokemon left! If you're going for a last resort already, you're in trouble!" The gym leader chimed. Giga drain hurt, but it wasn't very effective - unsurprisingly, one hoped - and Cherrim seemed barely bothered by the assault, "Okay, Cherrim, use leech seed and then tackle!"

The orders made, Cherrim spat another burst of vines from her wall of petals and then proceeded to bound along, aiming to tackle the lower leveled female.

"Weather Ball."Ash countered. He didn't know what the move did (I really don't know.), so why not see it in action? He was struggling to win. But, maybe Silver had rested enough to try and bring this annoying opponent down with a few moves? Rose hissed as the two attacks hit dead on, leech seed taking affect almost instantly. Once Cherrim's body slammed into her, Rose used Weather Ball, a look of irritation on her face.

Weather ball was probably one of Ash's best tactics given that, in normal weather conditions, the attack was simply normal type. It was a potential game changer, too, if only the trainer could strategize better. Silver was down for the count, so there was no using him. The boy would just have to hope the rest of the gang pulled through. "Now, that's more like it." Gardenia replied, her Cherrim trying to shake herself back into action. Once she had, the Pokemon went in for another tackle at her trainer's command. The thorny roses could hurt, but it was the best strategy to take Roserade down.

"Dodge! Then use Mega Drain!" Ash commanded. Rose nodded, jumping out of the way then pointing one of her roses at Cherrim to sap it's energy away. Two.grass types fighting was a frustrating as watching two Metapods use harden against each other repeatedly.

"Morning sun." Gardenia ordered yet again. It was going to be an infuriating stalemate for the boy at this rate, for Rose drained far less than Cherrim managed to recover. Stood at almost full health, the gym leader obviously intended to curb Ash's attempts and whittle the weaker grass type away. "Growth, and then tackle." With Cherrim's attack and special attack rising ever higher, these basic commands were getting deadlier and deadlier for Rose.

"Doge again, then Mega Drain." He frowned. Rose couldn't dodge fast enough and was hit, but quickly used one of her roses to try and sap some more of Cherrim's health away. She'd go down fighting if she had to.

'I'll have to surrender and come back after healing or find a fire type.' he thought with a sigh.

"Leech Seed, Cherrim!" It was an opportune moment while the two were close, and so long as the thin vines wrapped themselves properly and zapped fast enough, Rose would be unable to cut herself loose. A single seed shot up from beneath Cherrim's petals, aiming to stick to the opponent's leg and wrap from the awkward angle there. "Then tackle again!" The drain, however 'mega', was barely acknowledged.

Rose frowned as then thorns dug into her skin, sapping more of her health away, she moved to dodge Cherrim by Ash's command; unfortunately it was over. She'd been hit hard by tackle and leech seed took a good chunk of health. She was down for then count.

Ash returned her with a small smile.

"I surrender for now, Gardenia." He sighed.

Gardenia's lips twitched upwards into a confident smile, "Well, if that's what you want. It was a good battle, Ash." The gym leader said approvingly, "But you need to work on your strategies and get a bit stronger before you come back to me. Better luck next time!" The woman said, praising her delighted Cherrim as it bounced back to her, returning it to its ball a short time later.

Ash nodded before turning and leaving the gym, first he headed to the Pokécenter to heal his team.

"Hello Nurse Joy." He greeted, hanging his team over to her so they could be healed. He'd definitely train his team more and try to find a fire type while he's at it. Gardenia was tough, but he expected her to be.

' The Gym Leaders will only get tougher, gotta make sure my team is ready for the challenge as well as myself... Hm, I wonder about some of the upcoming contests... he thought.
