Training for the gym battle.

It was seeming like a fine day. The sun had just raised, there were barely any clouds in the sky with little to no wind. It was a little chilly in the morning but it was bound to get warmer afterwards. A fifteen year old boy named Damon had just finished his usual morning activities: taking a shower, brushing his teeth, making his bed, and of course dressing up. Since his clothes were badly damaged by yesterday's forest fire he had to wear different ones today. He was wearing sneakers with black socks, a gray pair of shorts with some red lines running down the sides. They had annoyingly small pockets though, too big not to be used but yet too small to actually fit anything. To cover his upper body he was wearing a white, plain t-shirt.

The boy walked out but before that he gave a quick look to Sableye, Seedot and Ralts who were deep in sleep. He smiled a little as he walked out from the room which lead to the halls of pokemon center. The hallways were empty and boring, they actually robbed the boy from his happy mood. Still being pretty tired he slowly stumbled down to the reception where he saw Nurse Joy drinking coffee behind a table. "Good Morning," greeted Damon the nurse. Joy seemed to be rather surprised as the woman had been quite tired as well. "Oh Hello Damon! Didn't notice you there, you are up rather early." Damon gave the woman a slight smile and started heading out but suddenly he stopped. He thought that Nurse Joy could actually help him. He started walking towards the table, "May I take a seat?" he asked. Joy smiled, "Of course you can!" while patting the spot next to her, hinting that the boy could sit right next to him. Damon pretended not to see that gesture though and sat in opposite direction of the Nurse.

He took a moment of thinking and the asked, "You live here right and hear a lot when other pokemon trainers speak right?" The woman slightly nodded while sipping her coffee. The boy took that as a yes and continued, "Could you tell me about Norman, the gym leader here. I heard in Oldale that he was suppoused to be really strong and I would like to plan a strategy against him." Once again Nurse Joy replied with a nod and then started thinking. After a moment or two she put her coffee cup on the table and spoke, "Well, it is true that Norman is extremely strong gym leader. He specializes in normal pokemon. If I remember correctly he uses Vigoroth and Slaking in his battles. The battles are also three on three." Damon rested his hands on the table as he asked, "Can you tell me about how strong his pokemon are?" Once again Nurse Joy started thinking, looking away a little, "Well," she mumbled, "It is really hard to measure pokemon strength. I checked your Sableye yesterday and I could say his pokemon are almost as strong as him, maybe a little stronger."

Damon was rather surprised, he knew they were strong but that strong . . . He knew that he had type advantage with Sableye but fighting three stronger pokemon in a row would certainly be an extremely hard feat. Yes, he had a seedot and ralts but they were still rather weak. The fact that Norman's pokemon were so much stronger didn't scare the boy though, rather it made him more excited and he jumped up from his seat. "Thank you Nurse Joy. I have some training to do!" Without even leaving Nurse Joy a chance to reply he dashed off. Although he originally planned to breath some fresh air he ended up going back to his room. He was really excited to plan a strategy and then train with his pokemon so he could beat Norman.

Although all the noise he was making by tossing stuff around he didn't wake up the sleeping pokemon. As soon as he had found his sketchbook, pencil and pokedex he sat down behind his desk and started thinking. Damon had to make up an effective strategy on how to beat three way stronger pokemon with three of his. That of course was going to be a challenge as Damon had never even seen Vigoroth or Slaking, thus he knew nothing about what kind of abilities they had. To make matters worse he had just recently caught his Seedot, and Ralts, so they didn't have perfect teamwork yet. He looked up the pokemon in his pokedex. He very carefully checked their abilities, weak points . . . everything that could be used against them. It took him almost a full hour of planning to make up a strategy which might actually work on Norman but for that he needed to go and buy some TMs and do a lot of work with his pokemon.

Once he had came up with the strategy to beat his first gym leader he decided to wake up his pokemon. In the last moment Damon changed his mind and decided not to wake them up as it was still quite early in the morning and they were sleeping so peacefully. Rather he simply walked out once more to buy his TMs and maybe also gather some extra information about the gym leader and his pokemon which might turn useful. He then went to explore the Petalburg City. He managed to find TMs and other necessary stuff pretty quickly, he even found time to talk with locals and some few other trainers who were passing trough. He managed to gather quite useful information about Petalburg City Gym Leader, Norman. Damon found out the way he usually fights, his pokemon' abilities and other things which he might turn against him.

Once Damon finally reached back at Pokemon Center he noted that Nurse Joy was completely different than she had been early in the morning. Now she was so full of life, running around and taking care of pokemon. She managed to be everywhere. Damon liked that there were people such as her who were so committed to their jobs. He didn't really bother wasting any more time though as there was a lot of training to be done. He went to his room only to find out that Sableye had woken up and made quite a mess. The sheets were completely messy again, there were several things piled around the room, and even though Damon washed Sableye last evening it still somehow manged to make some of the things little dirty.

One could read from Sableye's face that he was prepared for being yelled at and he seemed to regret what he had done. Things turned out little differently though. Damon remained really calm about the whole situation. As he was Sableye's trainer and such actions weren't really acceptable he still had to speak little louder, "Sableye, clean this up right now!" The pokemon imminently started cleaning up the room. He didn't seem to enjoy the activity much and thus it looked a little bit sloppy. Since Damon and others were going to come back here later he didn't make a big deal about it. His command had woken up the sleeping Ralts and Seedot though.

During the time Sableye was cleaning the room, and two other Pokemon were slowly waking up, Damon was backing his packbag. He put there towels, spare T-shirt, socks, freshly bought food and TMs - pretty much everything he needed for a day of training. After about half an hour or so everyone were ready to set off. As non of the pokemon didn't really enjoy being in Pokemon Damon let them be outside. Seedot occupied the boy's left shoulder while ralts was comfortable sitting between Damon's arms and stomach. Sableye was simply walking next to the boy as he was a little too big to be carried around like two others. The crew head out of the Pokemon Center. Damon wanted to leave the city and find some quiet, open space where he could calmly prepare his pokemon for the upcoming gym battle.

After about half an hour of walking outside of Petalburg City they actually came up to pretty nice place. It was a medium sized lake. The area was just big enough for them and since the spot was pretty deep inside the forest no one was most likely going to bother them. The whole area was covered in short grass and surrounded by trees. The lake had a spot for swimming which hinted that people have been here before. The fact didn't bother Damon at all, rather it made him quite happy as he thought he would later go and swim a little himself if the water wasn't cold. His pokemon also seemed to enjoy the place as Ralts and Seedot quickly jumped off Damon, following Sableye who had already started exploring the place. The boy was pretty proud of his found. He dumped his bag on the ground, it was finally time to start training . . .

Damon let the pokemon run around a little bit while he was searching for TMs. He decided that the first one who he was going to teach the skills to was going to be Sableye. He had bought five different TMs in the mornin – Taunt, Dig, Brick Break, Ally Switch, and Explosion. The boy pulled out the three first, the TMs looked like miniature CDs but you could say that they somehow felt different. Damon then loudly whistled, instantly gaining Sableye's, Ralts', and Seedot's attention, “Come here now,” yelled the boy loudly so they would hear him. The pokemon ran up to him. All of them knew they were going to train, they just didn't know how yet.

Damon started explaining to his pokemon, “Seedot and Ralts. Before going technical I want you to train your physical bodies a little bit. Seedot, I especially want you to work on your endurance, and Ralts, you I want to work on your psychic abilities.” The boy then took a quick breath and pointed out an area near the lake, “I want you to go there and train. Ralts, cast your confusion skill on Seedot as much as possible, while Seedot endures the attack. That way he toughens up and you, Ralts, can increase your psychic powers.” Both of the pokemon looked a little bit confused, Ralts didn't really want to hurt his newly found friend but both of them instantly became determined after Damon encouraged them, “I need you two the get extremely powerful since we are going to challenge a strong gym leader. Sableye can't do everything on his own.”

The two of them took off with their tiny legs and positioned themselves near the lake. Seedot toughened up, he seemed ready to take the attack. Ralts started focusing his abilities and aimed his energy towards Seedot, using confusion. Although it hurt the pokemon he took it. Damon nodded confidently as the two of them started training and shouted, “If you become really tired you can take a little rest! No slacking though.” That sentence made the two of them little happier since they knew this training was going to be extremely hard. After all under normal conditions living in the wild they wouldn't train like that. After seeing that the two of them trainer hard he turned his full attention towards Sableye.

“Well then my little Trickster,” told Damon to Sableye, who was looking somewhat proud since his trainer had told earlier that he was the strongest of the three. After a second of thought the boy continued, “Alright, you and I are going to learn some special moves which will certanly come in handy during our gym battle with Norman,” started the boy speaking, while at the same time showing off three discs, “I don't have any experience using these but I bet you and I can work it out.” Sableye looked confused, he didn't really know why the boy showed him the disk looking things and raised his shoulders. He then went on one of his knees and picked out TM which would teach Sableye Dig. “Try to absorb the disk's essence or something,” taught the boy Sableye and then proceeded to press the desk against Sableye's forehead. As Sableye concentrated and tried to absorb the essence inside the disk, it started brightly glowing. Sableye felt strange, it was almost if information was forced into his head . . . A momentary little brighter flash and the glow went out. Sableye smirked confidently, “Sableye, Sable-Sableye,” it spoke. The pokemon was confident that he had learned how to use dig.

Damon understood what had happened and smiled, “Let's check it out. Sableye, use dig!” commanded the boy his pokemon. Sableye nodded and started tugging his claws into the grass, after no time at all he had disappeared into the ground. At first Damon could hear him moving underground but soon it was completely silence. Now Damon sounded quite widely. He waited little while till Sableye ascended from the ground, he let him take his time as it was crucial for the pokemon not only to know the move but also to learn how to use it effectively. After a minute or so Sableye ascended from the ground with a grin on his face. “Good job Sableye, we are going to work on it later. Right now I have two more moves to teach you,” said Damon to Sableye. That only made the pokemon happier. He pounded two of his fists together, showing that he was ready for next one.

This time Damon decided to teach Sableye Brick Break, a fighting type move. “Alright Sableye, it is really important that you learned this move since it is going to play crucial part in your fights.” He pressed the disk on Sableye's forehead and continued speaking, “Norman's pokemon are vurnable against fighting type moves which gives you upper hand.” After hearing the reason Sableye started concentrating really hard once more. The disk on his forehead began glowing. Just like last time it brightly flashed right before turning off. Sableye smiled with confidence as he jumped little further away from Damon. Without even waiting for a command he started charging up his arm. His hand started glowing white. He could feel the power flowing trough his arm as he quickly smashed it to the ground, leaving rather deep markings. Damon nodded, confirming that Sableye had learned yet another move.

He then showed the pokemon another disk, it was the last one he had for Sableye. “Alright, this move is taunt,” he quickly thought a way to explain it simply to the pokemon and then proceeded, “What it does is make your opponent use only attack moves against you and not listen to it's trainer for a little while.” Sableye nodded, he already assumed what his trainer wanted him to learn it but for now he didn't bother thinking much. He just wanted to learn more. “Alright, come to me,” said Damon. Sableye walked in front of Damon again like before. The boy then put the disk against his head and the same thing as previous times happened once more. Sableye felt as he suddenly knew how to make cocky faces and other pokemon angry. He smiled a little and asked, “Sable, Sableye?” The boy could easily make out what the pokemon asked and answered, “Yes, this is all for now.”

Damon quickly thought what to do next and then started walking up to Seedot and Ralts who were training really hard, “Follow me Sableye,” added the boy. In a few seconds they reached the spot. The sight made Damon smile. Seedot was knocked out and Ralts was on the ground breathing really heavily. It was obvious that the two had worked extremely hard. “Wait here,” said the boy as he started running back to his bag which he had left about fifty meters away. He returned with some berries on his hand. They were yellow, rather juicy looking. Damon didn't really know how these berries were called but the seller told him they helped pokemon to quickly regain their strength. After feeding some in to Ralts and Seedot he could see the results. After about five minutes the two pokemon were back on their feet, ready for some more action.

Damon was really happy to see that the two were full of energy again. Before he managed to give out new orders his Ralts stopped him. “Ra, Ra, Ralts!” spoke the pokemon cheerfully. He then proceeded to create several images of himself, using double team. “Oh, so you learned a new move. That's awesome,” complimented Damon the pokemon. Seedot also seemed to be tougher. “Good job both of you,” started Damon speaking, “Seedot, this time I am going to teach you a move. During that I want you Sableye to practice Brick Break, Dig and Taunt. Don't hit Ralts with full power though, you can hit his illusions.” The boy then gave a smile, “Ralts, go full out and destroy Sableye.” Ralts seemed a little surprised that his trainer had commanded Sableye to simply practice moves while to him he told to go out . . . it actually made him a little bit mad. He didn't show it out though and just like Damon had told he was going to destroy Sableye.

“Alright Seedot, come,” spoke Damon as he started walking away from the two pokemon, leaving them alone to train. At first he walked up to his bag once more, pulling out TM containing Explosive, a really powerful move with really annoying side-effects. He then proceeded walking even further away from the spot. As they walked he started explaining, “Seedot, you don't really learn any good attack moves till you evolve so I am going to teach you one which is devastating.” The devastating part got Seedot really interested. They finally stopped, “Anyways, the move is called Explosion. What it does is basically make you explode, causing really great damage. It is a double edged sword though and makes you unconscious at the same time.” Seedot didn't seem to be bothered by the fact that the move would knock him out at all. Rather he was happy that he could deal some humongous damage with it and be useful.

Seedot started hopping around, “Seed, Seedot!” cheerfully telling Damon to teach it to him. The boy sighted and once again dropped on one of his knees right in front of Seedot. “Alright, I am going to press this disk against your forehead. You just try to concentrate and absorb the knowledge from it.” Seedot nodded with his entire body as much as he could and prepared for learning the move. Once again Damon pressed the disk against his pokemon's forehead. Just like with Sableye the disk started glowing and in no time at all Seedot had learned how to use explosive. The pokemon then started cheerfully hopping around. Damon stood up, he didn't want Seedot to use the move just yet though so he didn't say anything. Rather he told Seedot, “Good job, let's go back to Sableye and Ralts. I have more training planned for you.”

Although Seedot really wanted to try his new move he had to follow Damon's commands. The two of them started slowly walking towards the pond. On their way Damon threw the TM back into the pack bag, just in case also taking two berries along, one for each. After reaching to the destination the results were pretty much what Damon had expected them to be. Ralts was extremely tired once again while Sableye didn't really seem to have much anything wrong with him. After all he was immune to psychic abilities plus he was way stronger than his opponent. Ralts seemed to be slightly pissed but imminently calmed down after he had seen Damon. “Alright you two, you can take a little break,” said Damon while throwing two berries at Ralts, “Eat up to regain your strength,” added the boy and then sat down.

The boy tapped his knee a little bit and then started speaking, “Alright, we need a solid strategy against Norman,” he turned his looked towards Ralts and continued explaining, “You will be going up first and dealing as much damage as possible. It would be amazing if you would manage to actually knock one of his pokemon out.” Ralts only nodded, he seemed rather excited to prove his worth to Damon and rest of the team. “I need you to be fast and build up some stamina so you could keep on using double team and teleport to dodge. It is crucial since the enemy is so much stronger than you and might even knock you out in a two hits or so.” Ralts started pounding his chest, showing that he was ready for the fight and would do his best. Damon nodded, “Alright, good,” and then turned towards Seedot. “You are going to come up second. Ralts has probably already weakened the opponent so for you it is only to use Bide to completely knock it out. You try to hand on as long as possible with next opponent and then use Explosion to cause as much damage as possible.” The plan for Seedot was rather straight forward and easy to understand. Seedot was up for it. Once again Damon nodded agreeing and then turned towards Sableye with a slight smile on his face, “Alright, you are our trump card. You and I are going to take them down with Torment, Taunt, and Brick Break combo. Torment doesn't let them use Dark type moves much which are the only ones that can hurt you, taunt stops them from healing themselves, and of course Brick Break for humongous damage.” Sableye nodded confidently with an evil smirk on his face. All three of them were ready for the fight.

Damon then stood up, “Alright, we still have a lot of training to do, and Ralts, I almost forgot I have to teach you taunt as well.” The pokemon smiled a little, it was already thinking that maybe he was going to be the only one who wasn't going to learn any new moves. “Sableye and Seedot, you two keep on practicing. Ralts, you come with me,” Damon spoke as he started walking away from the location, Ralts quickly after him. The two of them walked up to the place where the bag had been dumped. Damon then pulled out the disk containing knowledge about how to perform taunt. “Same story to you as to others, I am going to press it against your forehead and you simply try to get the information from it,” started Damon explaining as he kneel down. Ralts nodded, showing that he was ready. “Here goes,” said Damon the moment he pressed the disk against Ralts' forehead. It started glowing but with unlike other pokemon the learning process was over in almost a second. For a second Damon thought that it failed but after seeing Ralts' expression he was sure that the pokemon had learned something. “Alright, you got it?” asked Damon slowly putting the TM back into his bag. Ralts nodded confidently and started running back to the two pokemon who were training near the pond.

Damon shortly followed the little pokemon. He was happy to see that all three of them were working out now. Sableye was using Brick Break on Seedot during the time Seedot used Bide. At the same moment Ralts was using confusion on Sableye. The moment Damon reached the spot Seedot fired out an extremely powerful Bide towards Ralts. The psychic pokemon managed to dodge it though. Damon loudly clapped his hands twice to gain all of their attention, “Alright team! I want you to do some combat training. Sableye versus Ralts and Seedot,” said the boy in a loud voice so all of them could hear him. The pokemon weren't even surprised anymore over the command. Ralts and Seedot had started developing some sort of respect towards Sableye, acknowledging him as the strongest in the group.

The pokemon took in their spots. Sableye was located about twenty meters away from Seedot and Ralts. All of them were eager to battle. “Use your own heads in this battle, I am just going to analyze this fight!” All the pokemon seemed to be okay with it and patiently waited for the green light. The very moment Damon shouted, “FIGHT!” sableye aggressively dashed out towards, firing Night Shade towards the psychic pokemon. Ralts managed to skillfully dodge that though. Ralts then dashed right towards Sableye, using Double Team. Several copies of Ralts appeared around Sableye. The Darkness Pokemon quickly decided to find the right one and used Scratch to destroy some of the copies. For his surprise he was struck by a green ball of energy. It was Seedot who had learned Nature Power. Because of the grassy area he used Seed Bomb, causing some damage to Sableye.

The Darkness pokemon was knocked away. He quickly got back on his feet though with a smirk on his face. Sableye then proceeded to use Shadow Sneak. Without his enemies even realizing Sableye's shadow extending they simply kept on planning their next move. Ralts was hit by humongous shadow fist, sending him flying into the air, right towards the location where Sableye was. Sableye then quickly proceeded by firing another night shade towards Ralts. The feeling pokemon managed to recover quick enough from the Shadow Sneak though and managed to teleport away right in time. The pokemon appeared right behind Sableye, using double team once more. Sableye knew that Ralts had no abilities to damage him so he suspected another Seed Bomb by Seedot. His vision was blocked though. Suddenly without any warning one of the copies disappeared with Seedot jumping right towards Sableye. It's body was glowing extremely brightly, so bright it actually blinded Sableye. Seedot didn't manage to wait any longer and wanted to try out his newly learned move. The pokemon blew up with extremely strong force, using explosion.

The whole area became covered in dust. Seedot's reckless move had made Damon jump up from his spot and run into the smoke. He was searching the pokemon, hoping that nothing bad happened to them. After a few moments the smoke cleared up and he was able to see unconscious Seedot. Few meters away from him was laying knocked out Ralts and between them a Sableye. The Darkness pokemon managed to push himself up, he was injured and seemed really weak though. Damon smiled that they all were okay and took his three pokeballs. “Alright good job, Sableye, Seedot, Ralts. Return,” spoke the boy as he returned all three into their pokeballs to rest. Damon glared at the pokeballs for a little while and then put them all onto his belt. He then proceeded to walk up to his bag. He picked it up and started slowly moving back towards city.

It was already afternoon. Time sure went fast during training but the day wasn't over quite yet. It took him quite a long time to move back to the city. Time seemed to move slower without any companionship. Damon felt pretty tired after reaching in front of the pokemon center but nevertheless he walked in a cheerfully greeted Nurse Joy once more, “Hello again Nurse Joy.” The nurse also replied very happily, “Hi again Damon.” The boy then took out three pokeball which all contained a really tired pokemon. “Could you please heal my friends back to their health?” Asked the boy nicely. As it was Nurse Joy's job she happily agreed. “You will get them back soon,” said the woman accepting the pokeballs.

Later in the evening their training continued even further. This time they were training in the pokemon center though, mostly working on their physical abilities such as speed and endurance. The team also worked their strategy around a little. They had to think ahead that Norman might have some extra move up his sleeves as well. Because of that they needed several tactics, not only one. Damon considered the day to be a great success and he thought that he had a fair chance challenging Petalburg City's gym leader, Norman, tomorrow.
