Chapter 5: The Alliance

After their combined forces brought them victory --- not like the last battle will have one of them a hard time to win --- Bruce and Chester decides to travel together. Bruce will be watching over Chester's progress while Chester learns things and acts as Bruce's noisy and talkative cheerleader of sorts.

Having visited the Pokemon Center, eating and getting to know each other's Pokemon well, the two are unsurprisingly hunger for battles. "I'm afraid that we even teamed up. We both want a battle every single second, what could happen if we someday catch ourselves some powerful legendary. Will our mind be corrupted that we end up trying to destroy the world as our own?" asked Chester. "Stop watching cartoons." replied Bruce. Treecko and the newly evolved Marshtomp are walking behind their trainers together, it looks like they're liking each other as friends.

"Hey, wait a minute...? How did we get here anyway? We had to sail right? I don't remember anything. All I know is I fell asleep." wondered Chester. "We found an old man who claims to be the master of sailing and he's so kind that he sailed for us here. He said that if we want to go back to Rustboro, we have to do it ourselves because we're trainers." Bruce answered. "Eh?" Chester responded, still confused and not sure whether to believe Bruce. "Marshtomp's not that strong to carry both of us... Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh??????" he thought.

"What you say we take down the gym of this town? Yep, no training. So we can see how strong we really are and in order to have some real challenge. But our undefeated streak will be in the line..." said Bruce. "YOU are INSANE." responded Ellis with a very confused face that he looked funny. "The heck's that face?" joked Bruce. The two laughed, their starters have no idea why they're laughing so they just stared at them. They were so carried away by their own conversation.

The two decides to challenge Brawly RIGHT AWAY!

They walk inside the gym, but the two starters didn't follow. "Eh, what you two monsters doing out there? Don't be afraid of the dark!" said Bruce. The two responded that it's not because of the dark that they don't want to go in, but because they're not sure they're prepared for another gym battle. "C'mon, you guys have to overcome the fury of suspense." motivated Chester. The two slowly walks in, and decides not to get too far away from their respective trainers so as not to get lost inside the gym, dumbingly.

"This gym sucks. The lights are off and the gym leader is a Fighting type specialist. I'd appreciate it if he is a ninja of some sorts like Koga from Kanto. C'mon, Brawly! Show yourself! We've captures Roxanne's base, this time... ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO ME!" Bruce taunted. Chester is listening closely to Bruce's footsteps. Marshtomp's special ability or instincts, allows him to be very sensitive to movements in the ground. Because of it, he does not need to worry that much. He didn't realize that a while ago since he just evolved. Now that he realized it, he told Treecko about it so Treecko put his hands on Marshtomp's back following the direction where Marshtomp goes.

Marshtomp's sensitivity detects something. He warns his allies that someone or something is getting closer to them. It could be a wild Pokemon who got list in the gym? Which is nearly impossible. Or a gym trainer or maybe even Brawly, himself!

It was a girl and a Hiker. "So...yeh've come to challenge Brawleh?" The Hiker questioned with a thick southern twang. "First, battle us!" The girl said.

"You guys are so dumb. How can ya battle in a gym this dark? I can't even see a thing, the Hell man?" asked Bruce.

They both had different answers. The Hiker grunted "Electricity shortages..." And sorrowfully shook his head. The girl said "It teaches pokemon to use their senses other than their eyes."

"So? Battle or not?" They asked together.

"Yeah, but how do you know where your Pokemon is? We humans don't have senses as good as our Pokemon. Just turn the light on." said Bruce.

"No. Yeh get the light after yeh've won..." The Hiker drawled. "And I'm operating the switch! I'm right beside it! I think..." The girl said. "Anyway, Meditite! Go!" "Machop! Go!" Were the consecutive cries as each released their pokemon.

"You turn on the light, FULLY after we beat the crap outta yar Pokemon, kay?" demanded Bruce.

Squirtle is sent out!

"This is gonna be tough... I hate you, Bruce..." said Chester, worrying.

Makuhita is sent out!

"Marshtomp, you act as our eyes, kay?" said Chester.

"Squirtle, Ice Punch!" said Bruce.
Mashtomp tells Squirtle the direction where he should punch!

One of Squirtle's fists becomes surrounded in an icy aura and it punches the opponent with it.

"Makuhita, Fake Out!"
Marshtomp tells Makuhita the direction where he should clap!

Makuhita claps its hands together and a beam of energy comes out of them and hits the opponent, causing it to flinch.

"Hoy! Not fair!" Hollered the Hiker as he and the girl both withdrew their pokemon in protest. "Not allowed!" They shouted simultaneously. "Also, no, we only switch on one light which will make it less dim but it will still be dark...."

"Why are you guys so afraid? Okay, without Marshtomp, BRING IT ON!" said Bruce.

"We're not afraid..." they said as they released their pokemon again. "Beware! We have been training in darkness for quite some time and now we're experts." They warned.

"Whatever. Same moves, just no direction." said Bruce.
"Yeah, Maku." followed Chester.

Makuhita claps its hands together and a beam of energy comes out of them and hits the opponent, causing it to flinch. (Fake Out)

One of Squirtle's fists becomes surrounded in an icy aura and it punches the opponent with it. (Ice Punch)

The duo looked for the moving shadows as the Battle Girl called out "Now Meditite Detect and then Hidden Power" Meditite dodging both attacks with ease (Detect) before, sending multiple miniature but powerful white orbs at Squirtle and Makuhita. The Hiker meanwhile called out to his pokemon "Now Machop Crush them like Limestone. Karate Chop Go" Machop following Meditite and leaping over her with a front flip before moving into a frog splash type position his hand glowing white before bringing it down on Makuhita's head (Karate Chop).

(Ehhhhh? But... Flame... ;_; Flame left my topicz? ;_; Doesn't mean I hate you, Mark, but... ;_; AH! This must be the message Flame sent you by PM! Hmm.... Let me work out my Phoenix Wright brain for a while... Flame is too shy to tell me that she wants to leave my topic along with others' topic and chose only a few since she's getting tired and it's too many for her to handle! Bruce: "Withdraw!"

Squirtle pulls all of its limbs into its shell for protection. Sometimes, the shell glows blue when the attack is being used. (Withdraw)

The Secret Power was deflected!

Bruce: "Trust your instincts and come out! Ice Punch! again!"

One of Squirtle's fists becomes surrounded in an icy aura and it punches the opponent with it. (Ice Punch on Meditite)

Makuhita got hit on the skull! It's not very effective.

Chester: "Fighting against Fighting? Ah, you want a competition? I bring it! Vital Throw!"

Makuhita slams into the opponent, and as the opponent's falling, it grabs it and throws it into the ground. (Makuhita used Vital Throw on Machop!)

Makuhita knows that Machop is just a grab away from him, so it will most likely be successful.

Bruce: "What sucks even more is that you can't reduce their stat, 'cause it's too dark. Tail Whip, Growl or Leer will n-... LEER! That will probably shed some temporary light! That's it, our next move will be unbelievable!"

Chester: "Huh? Hey, you never taught me anything like that! Don't expect me to be able to cope right away!"

Bruce: "C'mon, the enemy probably has an idea. I think you should have, too."

Chester: "I know, but... I hate it when I'm unsure... BUT LOOK AT THE BRIGHT SIDE! I think I'm getting what your plan is!"

Bruce: "Yep, but after we are able to defeat all the gym trainers here and get our lights turned on, we may have to retreat for a while. This is too much, we are strong, but it's dumb to act like a huge Rayquaza when we are only a Bulbasaur. Get it?"

Chester: "Yep. But c'mon, follow my way of living! Always think positive! We may just get outta here with the badge in one go!"

Bruce: "Yeah."

(Hey, Mark, if a Pokemon evolves while in battle, does its damages heal to a Pokemon Center healed like thing? Like a damaged Bulbasaur, near-fainting defeated its opponent and gets to level 16 in-battle. He evolves, does he heal like brand new?)

(In answer to your evolution question, yes)

The Hiker immediately called out "Now Machop use Foresight" Machop using the move to duck the Vital Throw (Foresight) before hearing "Next use Vital Throw aswell" Machop being used to the darkness managed to quickly but quietly get behind Makuhita and use Vital Throw attempting to grab Makuhita under the arms and throw it. (Vital Throw)

The Battle Girl meanwhile called out "Now use Detect again" their tactic being to frustrate the opponent into not thinking, as Meditite side-stepped the Ice Punch (Detect). The Battle Girl then called out "Next follow it up with Force Palm" Meditite's palm glowing blue with the crackling energy as he could see Squirtle's face thrusting his Palm at Squirtle with speed to deal some major damage (Force Palm).

Both got hit.

Bruce: "I can hear our Pokemons' cries. They sound hurt. This is no good. I think we should not have went here right away. Not only our Pokemon don't stand a chance but our undefeated streak will be ruined."

Chester: "Bruce, you know me. LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE. That's what I always tell you. Ironically, there ain't bright sides in this dark gym. Look on the bright side, what if our Pokemon get used to it as well? Oh yeah, the tactic!"

Bruce: "Thing is... I just remembered. None of the Pokemon in the battlefield knows Leer."

Chester: "... ... Makuhita, get in here! Marshtomp, get in there!"

Makuhita is withdrawn from the battle!
Marshtomp is sent to fight!

Bruce: "WHAT?! Makuhita needs some EXP!"

Chester: "We can take care about EXPs later! Our undefeated streak is on the line! You said that yourself!"

Bruce: "Right... Let's see you handle her! Squirtle, that's enough! Come on out, Nidoqueen!"

Squirtle is withdrawn from the battle!
Nidoqueen is sent out!

Chester: "Marhstomp, trust your special instincts and don't get too far away from Nidoqueen!"

Bruce: "Yep, same here Nidoqueen! I know you're not so sensitive in movements in the ground unlike Marshtomp, but when you think an enemy will come, turn around so that the long spikes on your back will ooze poison upon direct contact! You have Poison Point ability! Now Mr. and Mrs. Dark Area Freaks, have your Pokemon come at us! Nidoqueen, I won't be ordering you. Use your own knowledge to fight!"

Chester: "Same here, Marhstomp!"

Two changes in tactics. They won't use the Leer anymore since it's currently impossible. The other one is they will have the enemy come at them, which will allow them to be defensive. This time, the two Pokemon are on their own, no commands from their trainers which also means a different battle style that the opponents will have to adapt to.

(Sorry, it's not so good of a quality in RP, I'm kinda lazy to be fancy but I still wanted to RP. :P)

The Hiker heard them speaking and smirked knowing their Poison Point tactic, as did the Battle Girl. The Hiker then called out "Well then if you want to play it like that, Machop use Cross Chop" The Hiker deciding not to call out his target as he was so, close to Machop that Machop knew his target lunging at Nidoqueen leg with his arms crossed bringing them both in with power (Cross Chop).

The Battle Girl had the same sort of idea calling out to he Meditite "Let's go now Meditite and separate them use Confusion" Meditite smiling as she could easily see Marshtomp amongst the shadow's using Confusion on him, a light blue outline appearing around Marshtomp as Meditite picked him up and launched him away from Nidoqueen and into a wall, Marshtomp helpless due to the attack he was then slammed into the wall and then the ceiling and then the floor, leaving a crater in his place (Confusion). With this Marshtomp was free of the attack the line disappearing.

(You choose whether or not he survives)

Marhstomp took the first slam, then used Bide as the other slams followed. Marshtomp braced himself for the attacks. Now that Marshtomp has the damage piled up, Marhstomp unleashes a wave of energy, double the power of the damage the slams and Confusion dealt. The wave of energy is unleashed towards Medicham!

(I dunno how Bide works as an attack so I put a random description. :P)

Nidoqueen turns around oozing poison hoping for the 30% chance of poisoning to work agains the Fighting type. She still took the hit though. She tried to increase the chances of poisoning by using Poison Sting!

Nidoqueen fires multiple white darts from its mouth at the opponent.

(XD I didn't get tired of modding topics. I was gone for a trip so I asked Mark to mod my topics for a day.)


Machop deflected the Poison Stings with an arm, getting poisoned in the process. It then rushed towards Marshtomp, readying a Karate Chop. Meditite concentrated and deflected the Bide using Detect. It then unleashed a Confusion at Nidoqueen, sending pink-purple streaks of pure Psychic power at the Poison pokemon.

Both Pokémon got hit by their foe's attacks. Marshtomp, knowing where Machop is, immediately responded with an Ice Beam after getting hit. The foe Meditate who scored a super-effective hit against the Poison type got Nidoqueen's attention. She can hear the foe's cry and so she ran towards the direction of the sound with a Tackle.

Meditite tried to concentrate and use Detect, but it failed as the Tackle landed. It tumbled out of the air and floated back up, now enraged as it unleashed another Confusion, knowing the damage it was doing to Nidoqueen. Machop was frozen by the Ice Beam but it dodged just in time only to get it's feet frozen. It released itself with a Karate Chop and rushed ahead at Marshtomp with another Karate Chop, hoping to land a critical hit.

Nidoqueen was also rage-driven and with the thoughts of victory in her mind, the foe's attack failed. The enemy is in a close-range. She decides to show the foe the power of her bulky arms by swiping it with a Scratch.

The Machop whose leg was frozen, needed a short amount of time to be able to strike allowing Marshtomp to sense that movement as he jumped back dodging the attack. "The sound of the moves and Pokémon makes me think that we're slightly being able to fight back," commented Chester who is hoping that they really are. No response from the curious Bruce. Marshtomp uses another Ice Beam hoping that this time, it will entirely freeze Machop.

Should it happen, there will be a two-on-one advantage which will greatly turn the tables. Marshtomp will then be attacking the foe Meditite as well while the other foe Machop is frozen solid.

Machop, unfortunately, didn't get frozen. It rushed at Marshtomp at mach speed, holding out both hands for a double Karate Chop. Meditite scavenged together it's lost focus and tried to lift Nidoqueen and hurl her away with Confusion, dealing damage at the same time.

Marshtomp's ability to sense movements didn't save him from this one. He was hit by the Karate Chop that was thrown like a Cross Chop. He wasn't really sure what hit him but he knows it hurts. He answers with yet another Ice Beam.

Nidoqueen, who is too heavy cannot be lifted but her mind took the damage. It's another super-effective hit. She's going to faint soon so she better give this turn her everything. She runs towards the Psychic foe and attempts to slam it flat with her whole weight Body Slamming!

Meditite, sensing a lage incoming figure tried to hover away but gravity beat her to it. As Meditite was crushed under the 132 lbs of the Poison Pokemon, it unleashed a last Confusion before fainting. As Machop turned distractedly to look at Meditite, it was hit by the freezing cold Ice Beam. By now it was practically shivering. It sized up it's foe and stuck out a foot and rushed at Mashtomp, using Low Kick.
