The illustrations are harder to use, but they have an overall better look then sprites. At least in my opinion.

OKay, the Shiny things may take up to two days, depending on how fast I am xD
Sprites will be made shortly :3

As for making sprites, I use MS paint, simple program on pretty much all PC computers, oh but I have to admit I don't use Windows 7, I downloaded the old XP version (couldn't find vista :P)
I use the free form select tool, and leave draw opaque off it makes it simple. When the sprite is done, I use the fill or usually the eraser tool, which can become a color eraser, then I hold the right mouse button thingy and it pretty much makes one color become another. I hope that sounds right xD
I'm not too good at explaining.
