Joel is a calm and collected guy; and this shows in his battle style he never rushes into things but, instead likes to find his own balance in the battle. He will use many different tactics to win a battle including; Combination Moves, Surroundings, Type Advantage etc. He never forces a pokemon to battle beyond it's limits and if necessary he will stop a battle and forfeit; just to ensure that they are safe and don't come to any serious harm.

Personality:
Joel is calm and collected and always thinks over each decision carefully. He is friendly and very easy to befriend, some say that he can be a bit too trusting of people but, what they don't know is that he's very aware of what goes on around him though he may not show it. Joel is helpful and has the necessary skills to do whatever needs to be done on his adventure including, cookery, parkour and multi-linguistic skills due to a mixed heritage and keen interest in learning new things.

History:
Joel grew up in Vaniville Town from birth; his life generally consisting of just him and his father. His mother ran off at a young age so, that is all he knows. He attends school in the town and is quite knowledgeable though he wouldn't be what you generally consider a nerd it's more there but doesn't always show. Joel's father Tom is a well known explorer who used to venture into the unknown parts of regions and look around the world for new regions and lands however, he obviously had to give that up when Joel was born to help raise him.

Joel had decided at the age of 10 that instead of going on his journey; he would stay behind and help his father who was going through a rough patch being without anything to do and rarely getting out of the house, luckily Joel was able to get him out of it with some help from their friends who rallied together to buy him a new boat and exploration gear. Joel then revealing that he was going on a journey therefore, Tom would be able to return to what he used to love exploration which was a great idea as, Tom agreed though he helped ensure that Joel was ready for it by buying him all the necessary stuff that would be needed for his journey including giving him some money and a bike.

When Joel reached 15 and Tom had planned his first expedition they each set off on their adventures and thus the journey begins with Joel on his way to the Sycamore Pokemon Laboratory in Lumiose City.
