Endurance Training

(Training begins on the third paragraph, discard the first two as nothing but plot/context)

Alexander's fist met the surface of the soft mahogany door, releasing three smooth knocks before raising to his left shoulder, resting gently on Theodosius' forehead. His best friend's bite wounds were thankfully completely healed thanks due to a quick visit to the Pokemon center. The new additions to his traveling posse rested inside their Pokeballs, enjoying a much needed rest after the turmoil of the trip to Saffron City. Still, Theodosius darting off the path and dragging them through that chaos was well worth it. Finally, the sound of his knock yielded a response in the pounding of boots on a hardwood floor drawing closer, before finally the hinges shrieked and the door was opened.

"Well, about time you got your ass over here!" A heavy hand slammed firmly down on Alexander's unoccupied shoulder, and he found himself staring into the warm face of his Uncle, his thick stubble threatening to form a beard on his solid jawline. "I came as soon as I could, Uncle Dionysus." Alexander replied with a smile, his hand continuing to stroke the forehead of theodosius, who was now far more interested in sniffing out the strange man before him. "So this is the Nidoran your parents told me about. Nasty business that TD... I've never heard about an egg surviving before. He got a name?" "Theodosius. And speaking of Theodosius, I was wondering if you could help me in that department. I was wondering if you could lend us some of your... unique training techniques. This one's so scrappy that if he doesn't get bigger soon, he's going to get seriously hurt." "Nido!!" Theodosius snapped in response to the implication that he wasn't already strong enough to handle the world, his typical childhood confidence bleeding through once again. "Of course... i'll get everything set up, meet me in the yard."

Six pokemon surrounded Theodosius in the flat asphalt clearing that was Dionysus' backyard. Directly in-front of the Nidoran stood a colossal Bastiodon, his solid shield like face only a few inches away from the tip of the young pokemon's horn. The other assembled pokemon all stood several feet back from the group, a large Blissey stood on his left, while an old Ambipom stood on his right. A Gliscor circled the assembly overhead, while a Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee tag team stood directly behind the runt. "Theodosius, Double kick Bastiodon!" the little runt reared back, scratching the ground firmly with his front legs before kicking off with force, thrusting his hind legs towards the armored face of the weary warrior. the bottoms of both feet collided with a satisfying TINK, the force of the blow causing the metal plating on the beast's head to sound off like a hammered anvil. Still, the blow did not phase the Bastiodon, and Theodosius landed on the ground with a thump, his feet in agony from the impact. His bones weren't used to striking a surface where all the force was sent back inside himself, and having gave it his all, it felt like they had shattered on impact. Still, he managed to find his feet after a few moments, only to be kicked firmly by Hitmonlee from behind, an impact that sent him flying face first into Bastiodon's armored facade.

Theodosius awoke a few seconds later, the pain sapped from his body as a warm hearted Blissey smiled down upon him. He arose with a skip in his step, as though he had never experienced any of the pain of those blows. "We'll just keep at this til he gets where he needs to be." Dionysus said with confidence as he looked upon the scene. "There's no injury my Blissey can't heal, and your Theodosius has the heart of a true warrior. He won't give up just because it hurts" As Dionysus thought aloud to his Nephew, Theodosius had already returned to training, firmly launching himself into the surface of the Bastiodon with a tackle, though both his shoulders and his horn bounced off the steel. This time, the pain was less intense, and he managed to keep his footing. As he landed, however, the Ambipom's tails grabbed him, one taking each of his hind legs before swinging up violently, dragging the Nidoran into the air. Theodosius shot off a desperate thunderbolt towards the Ambipom in an attempt to free himself, the bolt firing from the tip of his horn into the beast's feet.

Ambipom dropped Theodosius with a yelp, his defenses clearly not prepared for such an unusual attack to come from the little pokemon. His hands released by instinct, and Theodosius was dropped to the ground with a thud. Gliscor's wings wrapped themselves into his body, his flight stopping instantly as he began to plummet towards Nidoran like a missile, spreading his wings just before impact to reveal his razor sharp talons. They locked in on the back of the little Nidoran, forcing out a horrible shriek from the beast before lifting him into the air several feet, only to drop him down again, knocking the poor runt out once more. Just like last time, Theodosius awoke in the clutches of the Blissey, his wounds sealed and his pain gone. He didn't hesitate this time, he immediately shot up and launched a confusion at the flying beast that had attacked him. Such ranged attacks were incredibly rare in his species, especially at his age, and as such the Gliscor, like the Ambipom before him, got clipped, the confusion dazing him and causing him to fall out of the sky.

The Hitmonchan lunged forward to avenge his friend, enraged by what he saw as a cheap attack. He thrust a sharp right hook towards Theodosius, hitting him firmly in the side of his face. Theodosius was launched back several feet, landing on his side with a whimper. He rolled away from the advancing attacker as he scrambled to find his feet once more, but his efforts were not fast enough to match the speed of the far more experienced Hitmonchan, who sunk another punch into the Nidoran, this time into his ribcage. The punch burned, as though Theodosius had been punched with fire itself, and he scrambled to fall back from his advancing attacker. Another sweeping punch sunk into his hind legs as he turned to fall back, knocking him off his feet once more. The Hitmonchan stood over Theodosius, raising his fist once more. This time he held it, ready to release it at a moment's notice, the surface of his fist slowly becoming engulfed in ice as he did so. Finally, he lunged, his Ice punch ready to knock Theodosius out once and for all. As the fist met his scalp, a blinding flash of light flooded the area, and when it cleared, Hitmonchan's punch had been revealed to be stopped mid-swing, coming to rest against the sharp tip of a long horn. Theododius stood there, his stature having increased dramatically almost instantly. "Nidorino!" he roared at his attacker, before lunging at him, driving the poisoned horn straight into his fist. The Hitmonchan shrieked and tried to remove the horn from his hand by sinking several punches into Theodosius' ribcage with his free hand, but they no longer got the same reaction as before. A sharp set of razor teeth dug into his other hand, and just when hitmonchan was out of options, he dissolved in a sudden flash of red light as Dionysus removed him from the field of battle.

Alexander picked up his now significantly heavier Nidorino with a groan, squeezing him tightly in pride. "Thank you uncle... that wasn't easy to watch, but you saved us a lot of pain." Dionysus didn't respond, simply scruffed his Nephew's hair knowingly before withdrawing the rest of his pokemon. "You can stay for awhile if you'd like." he said with a smile. "I'd love to. No, we'd love to." "Nidorino!"

Nidoran gained 94 exp! Nidoran grew to level 17 with 12 exp remaining!

A strange glow surrounded Nidoran as the training ended. Suddenly, his features began to glow and distort as evolution began. Once the change was complete, standing in front of Alexander wasn't his old Nidoran but a strong Nidorino!
