Chapter 1: A Champion Rises

Kam left his home only a moment ago before heading to the lab in town that Professor Oak owned. He made an appointment to come get a Pokedex before he actually started his journey. The sun beamed down on the boy as he walked towards the lab with a smirk as he finally approached it. He was wearing his black shirt because it was too hot for a jacket, black cargo pants, and his read and white hat with his matching red and white shoes. Kam walked inside and called out after coning his mouth with his hands to project his voice, "Heyo! Oak! I'm here to get my pokedex, it's me, Kam!" The professor would probably be there shortly, after all, there was no way he couldn't here the teenage boy.

The professional Professor Oak, dressed in his usual white lab coat, was stunned to hear such a loud voice in his lab as he was working on his research on pokemon. He walked out of the room in the back of the lab, holding in his hand the boy's pokedex. "Ah here you go Kam. Tell me, are you always so energetic or is it just the excitement of you starting on your journey?" The wise old man asked after handing over the pokedex.

Kam watched the professor walk over to him. The old man, wearing his lab coat looked so cool. Kam was a big fan of the man, he was so experienced in pokemon, he knew almost everything about them. The teen reached out to grab the pokedex which was shiny and new looking. He was so happy to be hear, after tucking the pokedex away, the boy scratched his head in embarrassment as he awkwardly laughed, "Ummm.... haha, I guess you can say I'm excited but I do tend to have a lot of energy." The boy looked at the professor for a moment. He was going to do it. He was going to ask the professor for a battle. "Hey, um, can I ask for a favor? Do you mind having a battle with me? It would help me learn a lot before starting my journey." He really hoped the man said yes, if so Kam will have the chance to gain some experience.

The Professor smiled at the boy as he showed his excitement, it reminded him of when he first got into researching all those many years ago. The boy continued to explain how he wanted a battle with The Professor, he was never really one to battle. But hey, there was a starter in the lab and he couldn't let the boy down, so he had no choice. "Um.. Sure, hehe." Oak said to the young man. "There's a starter here in the lab, let me go get it then we can have a quick battle. You can go outside as you wait for me, we'll have our battle in front of the lab." He explained to the boy the battle arrangements. He then went to the back room and picked up a tiny pokeball, containing the starter. Oak then headed outside and stood ready on his side of the battlefield, a plain field of freshly cut green grass with a small rock here and there. The sun was shining beautifully with only a few white clouds in the sky and a slight breeze in the air. "Let's begin, shall we?" Oak then pressed the tiny button on the small pokeball, which caused it to grow in size. After throwing it into the air, a white light was released from the ball and took the form of Totodile. Totodile was level 12, but he was always eager to battle.

Kam grinned as the professor would agree to battle the boy. "Alright cool, I'll meet you out there." Kaii walked out of the lab, leaving the cool air conditioning that was in the building, he didn't mind it while he was in there and now that he was out in the hot, he wished he had it back. He pulled out a pokeball and touched the button before he threw the ball to the ground. It released a white light that took its form as a sandshrew who jumped into Kam's arms. Kam smied and hugged the pokemon, "Hey Oasis, we are going to battle okay?" The pokemon gave a cute little scram, "Shrew!" Great he and his pokemon were on the same page. Kam pulled out his pokedex and found out some information on his pokemon. Then professor Oak showed up and chose some alligator pokemon, which Kam used his pokedex on, "Tsk. A water type, Oasis, stay sharp pal, this won't be an easy fight. Now! Use rollout!" The small mouse pokemon jumped into the air, curling up into a ball and rolled his fastest at totodile, with the intention of knocking it over like a bowling pin.

It seemed Oak had the type advantage as Kam released a Sandshrew, a ground type pokemon. Oak knew this quite well as he knows just about everything there is to know about type advantages and pokemon. The young boy gave the first command as he sent his Sandshrew at Totodile with a rollout. "Counter with Aqua Jet." The Professor said to the Totodile. It listened well and complied as its body got engulfed in water, the alligator pokemon then shot at the rolling Sandshrew in a jet like fashion. If the two collided it would mean both took damage, though Sandshrew being at a type disadvantage it would take a lot more damage than Totodile.

"Haha, Perfect, Now Oasis, into the air in then give it a mud shot!" Oasis rolled and then bounced up into the air, making the totodile fly right under it, the sandshrew turned around midair and shot off three mud slabs at the totodile's back, "Shrew!" If the attack landed Oasis would take a second to taunt by flexing once he landed on the ground, but then would be ready to finish the battle as soon a Kam gave him the orders. Kam could still win the fight, he knew type advantage wasn't everything, he just had to believe in himself and his pokemon.

The Mud Shot hit head on, so to speak. The Totodile, now caked in mud and furious, wiped off the dry soil covering him. "Water Gun!" Oak called out. The blue reptilian Big Jaw pokemon inhaled deeply before squirting out a powerful jet of water at its opposing foe. The flexing all but infuriated it. It had to keep a level head. It had the type advantage here, but the Sandshrew was not a foe to be underestimated.

Kam smiled as the attack managed to hit, "Alright, now counter swift!" The pokemon jumped and flipped forward, sending a barrage of stars at the totodile with a flick of Oasis's tail. The two moves clashing would create a smokescreen, which would be an advantage for Kam and Oasis, "Give him a Brick Break!" The sandshrew would roll around totodile to pick up speed and then would swing his arm that was glowing white at the totodile's midsection for a devastating blow. Hopefully the two could win the battle, they really were going to put in their all until the outcome was in their favor!

Contrary to the trainer and his pokemons belief, the stars merely cut through the Water Gun, dissipating it and went through to hit Totodile. It spied the Sandshrew closing in with a Brick Break and swiftly broke into an Aqua Jet, before Oak could order. No time. It rocketed towards it's ground type foe.

Oasis was hit in the stomach by the move which really hurt, but still managed to smash down it's arm on top of the water Pokemon's head. After hitting the ground from the attack, Oasis got up and looked at the other Pokemon. Kam smiled at his Sandshrew, "Goodjob Oasis, way to stay in there! ROLLOUT!" Oasis jumped in the air and then began to spin forwards at the opponent's pokemon. After so many hits, the totodile should be almost down. Maybe just one more hit.

The Brick Break was swiftly evaded by the Totodile. Unfortunately, it was in an awkward position after dodging and the Rock attack hit it, sending it flying back. For a moment it lay still before slowly getting to it's feet. It hung on by a thread before breaking into an Aqua Jet. A Torrent boosted Aqua Jet, on top of that.

Oasis jumped up on his own instinct and waited for further instructions from Kam, "Great, now use scratch!" The small mouse pokemon rushed down at the totodile, trying to finish it once and for all. This battle was intense, both of the pokemon were becoming tired and you could see them weakening it was time to wrap this up, Oasis attempted one more attack aimed at the Totodile.

Still in Aqua Jet, the Scratch was effortlessly dodged before veering around double to try and connect with the Sandshrew.

Kam shook in fright of losing his first pokemon battle, maybe he shouldn't have challenged the great Professor Oak? Kam saw the attack coming his Sandshrew's way, "Defense curl, and follow up with a mud shot!" Oasis knew he was going to be hit so he curled up in a ball mid air and took the hit, trying to reduce the damage with Defense Curl, "Shrew!" After the attack made contact with the pokemon, Oasis uncurled and fired off 5 mud slabs towards the totodile, who would have a rough time dodging at a range so close, "Sandshrew!". This was it, they had to win, they just had too! "Get if it your all Oasis!"

The move connected, and Totodile collapsed, finally succumbing. "Hmm. If you can defeat a pokemon having a type advantage over yours, you should have absolutely no problem." Oak said kindly as he recalled the Totodile, who smiled at Kam and his Sandshrew, to show there were no hard feelings, with a ':3' expression on his face being being engulfed in the red light and dematerialized into the sphere. "Well done. Now take a rest." The former of the statement aimed at both Totodile and Kam, he turned to return the pokemon to the room and heal it.

Kam looked at the pokemon battle happening before his own eyes, it was great, he was a trainer now and he even beat someone he looked up to. His eyes watered as the Professor praised him for being able to take out a pokemon with a type advantage. Kam and Oasis ran towards each other and Oasis jumped into Kam's arms and Kam embraced his mouse pokemon, "Great job, I'm so proud of you! We won our first battle. I'm so glad me and you are partners." Oasis nuzzled up on Kam with affection, "Sand, Sandshrew, Shrew!" Oasis climbed up to Kam's shoulder with delight. Kam sighed, that battle was so intense he actually thought he might lose, but he didn't give up on himself nor Oasis. Kam followed Oak into the lab and put his hand out for a hand shake and smiled at the older man in front of him, "Okay Professor, I'm out of here, and thanks for all your help!"

Sandshrew gained 12 exp!
Sandshrew grew to level 13!

(Agh, stupid laptop! *thumps it but only succeeds in hurting her hand* I write a reply and get logged off before I can post it, essentially losing my progress. I visit again in my second timing and type it again and again log off! Now, with my last timing of the day, I finally post the stupid reply!...which differs largely from my original post which I cannot recall what it was. ._.' I mean, here's your post~)

Oak warmly shook the offered hand and smiled back, wrinkled face creasing furthur as his face split in a smile. "Of course. Now go on out there! Hundreds of pokemon wait for you!" And he gave the boy a decisive push towards the door.

Kam ran out the door and turned around, waiving along with Oasis on his shoulder also waiving, "Alright, I Will, thanks again!" After a while of running he figured he was in no rush so he began walking. He then looked a head and saw the road which would take him out of Pallet Town, his home. "Okay Oasis, this is it, our adventure is starting now." Kam walked onto the road with a smile on his face.


Kam walked on the road with Oasis now in his pokeball, trying to rest before he was needed again. Kam smiled. He was so happy he won his first battle as a trainer, he and Oasis were 1-0 in their pokemon battles. He wanted to go undefeated, but in order to do that he was going to have to keep his pokemon strong as ever.

With the sound of slight crackling of leaves, bushes and berries, clearly a powerful static, a Mareep walked out of the bushes lining the path, wool fluffed up and crackling with electricity. She caught sight of the trainer and his pokemon and backed off a bit, clearly shy and bleated a bit.


Level 11

Kam noticed the mareep and got to its level in height and smiled, "Hey little guy, no reason to be scared of me okay?" He simply walked past the creature, having no interest in the sheep pokemon. He kept on walking, hoping to meet a pokemon, that he would enjoy having on the team, and tat could be a great friend. Kam walked the road, almost to his destination, Viridian City.

Almost immediately, a blue-black blur ran swiftly through the bushes in front of them, momentarily stopped in the middle of the path, upon which its species was revealed. It was a Riolu. Incredibly rare and elusive, it stopped only for a fleeting second in front of the trainer before breaking into a run again, crossing the path in a single, graceful leap and landing on the opposite line of bushes, and breaking into a run again, it's path signified by the trail of rustling foliage it left behind it.


Level 11

(Yeah, go chase after it.)

Kam would walk along, then something strange happened, a really cool looking pokemon came out of the bushes, and looked Kam in the eye for an instant. Curiosity filled Kam's head as he broke into a run after the Riolu. He followed the trail the pokemon left behind itself. Damn the pokemon was fast. Kam was super athletic and even he could barely follow the pokemon. Although, he felt like the pokemon would be a great friend so he chased after it with all his might.
