Fighting a Falkner Battle

The duo entered the city calmly, Aaron looking around in the hopes of finding the gym somewhere nearby. Upon noticing a building in the distance he approached to see the gym leader nearing the end of a battle with a trainer his Pidgeotto finishing off a small Snubbull with a mighty Gust attack. Aaron was suddenly filled with determination turning to Zero and asking "So you wanna go first or shall I?".

Aaron was already in mid thought planning a battle strategy which would feature both Blitzle and Ralts ready for anything the gym leader could throw at him knowing it would be a 2 on 2 battle with only him allowed substitutions. Aaron was snapped out of it as the male trainer who had just finished his battle with Falkner ran from the gym towards the pokemon centre. Aaron however knew this wouldn't easy at all.

"You can take your first turn, I'd like to see how Fakner fights before I fight him," Zero replied, looking at the running trainer with pity. He smiled to Aaron, and gestured toward the gym, "I'm interested to see what you do. Good luck."

Aaron smiled "Thanks" he said climbing down from Gigalith and returning him before walking up to Falkner and asking "Excuse me I'd like to have a gym battle if you wouldn't mind?" Aaron then walked to the contenders zone standing there and awaiting Falkner to bring out his pokemon knowing that as a Gym Leader Falkner wasn't allowed to turn down a Gym Battle request.

Blitzle was on the sidelines waiting so that Falkner wouldn't know he was to be used until the time of the battle actually came. Aaron had finished the plan and battle strategy in his head now awaiting Falkner with confidence and a whole load of determination to win and get his first Gym Badge.

Falkner studied his challenger closely, then nodded. "I accept your challenge," he said, "name your terms." He then gripped a Pokeball, and seemed to be thinking of a strategy while he awaited Aaron's terms.

Aaron thought Falkner had the rules set but said to him anyway "it'll be a two on two battle only i'm allowed substitutes like in most gyms and so you may begin bring out your pokemon first" he awaited Falkner to bring forth his pokemon smiling whilst he waited for the moment to Blitzle to the battle field prepared for anything this gym leader could throw at him.

Aaron looked forwards standing sturdy and had his poker face on trying not to give anything away towards his plan to Falkner at any point as then he would maintain the advantage. Aaron had already done all the studying he would need towards Falkner and his pokemon having came prepared and knowing this would be tough to say the least.

Falkner nodded, and threw a Pokeball into the air, allowing it to expand and release the Pidgey that was housed within. "Dgey," it said, spreading its wings to make itself look larger and more intimidating, it hovered above the battlefield, awaiting the Pokemon it will face.

"Your move challenger," Falkner said, also awaiting the arrival of Pokemon that he will face.

Aaron puts his fingers into his mouth and whistled Blitzle running over and standing on the field looking to Pidgey. Aaron then said to Blitzle "Ok Blitzle use Thunder" Blitzle rearing up onto his hind legs before slamming down his front hooves and letting loose a large bolt of Thunder larger than the Pidgey at it.

Aaron smiled watching the attack awaiting the conclusion of the move believing it would hit and if so it would either finish Pidgey in one or at least half the Pidgey's health for no minor flying type could withstand an attack of such power.

Falkner gave a small smirk as he observed the attack. Pidgey seemed to gracefully fly out of the way of the oncoming Thunder maneuvering with both accuracy and speed, almost as if it had been practiced before.

"Thunder is a very powerful, yet easy to dodge move, are you sure you can keep this up?" Falkner said smugly, then nodded toward his Pidgey. With a sudden sharp turn, Pidgey dived towards Blitzle, and flew right by him, whipping up a giant cloud of dust and sand, it used Sand Attack!

Aaron saw this coming as the first clump of sand was thrown calling to Blitzle "Ok dodge with a Quick Attack then use Flame Charge on Pidgey" Blitzle hearing his friend's words speedily moving out of the way of the Sand being thrown with Quick Attack he then used Flame Charge once again rearing up onto his hind legs his hooves flaring up the flames intense and the smoke exploded from Blitzle's location, Blitzle emerging from amongst the smoke but this time he had flames surrounding him so he began charging at Pidgey with speed. Blitzle's speed stat increased as Aaron knew it would for his plan was working and Blitzle was looking good so far.

Aaron smiled keeping focused on the battle but wondering what Zero was gonna do in his battle and what Zero was thinking of this one. Aaron awaited the moves outcome to become known confident that the move would hit and win them this battle.

A crease appeared on Falkner's brow. He did not expect this move, and could only watch helplessly as the great speed of the attack disallowed Pidgey to even attempt to dodge. It his him full power, and he crashed hard into the ground. With a small "Pid," the bird fainted.

Falkner kept a poker face as he returned his Pidgey. "Good work," he said softly to the Pokeball it now inhabited. Then with a smile, he grabbed his second Pokeball and threw it into the air, it expanded and released the Pigeotto from within. "Again, your move," Falkner said.

"Thank you" replied Aaron before calling to Blitzle "Ok now Blitzle lets use Shockwave Go!" Blitzle immediately running forwards faster than before due to Flame Charges ability to boost speed and stopped behind where Pidgeotto was. Tilting his head down so his mane was pointing at Pidgeotto he unleashed the large and near unavoidable Bolt of electricity from his mane headed straight for Pidgeotto's current location.

Blitzle grinned as the move was used full concentration applied hoping this would be another one of those one hit knockout's. Aaron was watching seeing Blitzle and wondered whether or not Blitzle was trying too hard because if that was the case Blitzle could hurt himself but he watched allowing the move to finish before considering it again.

Pigeotto was helpless against the basically unavoidable attack, but it seemed Aaron underestimated the toughness of Pidgeotto. Even after getting hit by the bolt of electricity, the Pokemon was still standing, or rather, flying.

Pigeotto was, however, breathing heavily, and struggling to keep himself into the air. Without needing any instruction from Falkner, he painfully beat his wings and flew up to the above rafters, and rested, restoring his health by using Roost.

Seeing this as a chance whilst Pidgeotto was distracted Aaron called to Blitzle "Ok Blitzle again Thunder!" Blitzle moving next to where Pidgeotto was again and once again he raised himself onto his hind legs his front legs kicking in the air before slamming down Blitzle sending forth a giant bolt of Thunder up into the rafters at Pidgeotto with added speed and precision.

Aaron was watched hoping this would work as Pidgeotto was clearly distracted with healing itself and thought it was out of the way so he continued to watch the plan having gone out of the window after Pidgeotto was brought into the battle. Aaron thought this battle was going rather well and rather quickly but really he didn't actually know just how long he had been in this battle.

Pidgeotto saw what Blitzle was going to attempt just a moment to late. He attempted to fly out of the way of the Thunder, but became tangled in the rafters, and struggled to become free. With a few panicked pulls, the bird managed to get out, but it was at that moment when the Thunder struck where he previously was. Although the struggling allowed him to get out of the direct range of the bolt, he was still greatly damaged by it.

"D'gey," Pidgeotto cried as he fell from the sky, and with a loud 'thock' hit the ground. Breathing heavily, and obviously struggling to stay up, Pidgeotto bravely struggled to his feet. He did not have the strength to attack, but he would take defeat with dignity, standing up and fighting until the end, instead of lying on the ground like a coward; he waited for the final attack to come.

Aaron saw this and so did Blitzle so Aaron called across "Ok lets finish this Blitzle use Flame Charge Again!" Blitzle did as Aaron said once again raising up onto his hind legs and slamming his front hooves down on the floor repeatedly causing a cloud of dust to appear and then Blitzle ran out from amongst the smoke surrounded by red and yellow flames even faster than before. Blitzle was bearing down on Pidgeotto for the attack all that was left to do was watch and await the conclusion.

Aaron watched as there was something different about this attack then again Blitzle must really want to win to make Aaron proud. Aaron smiled at Blitzle clearly showing the confidence he had in him. Aaron then had nothing left to do and alike Blitzle he could only await the conclusion of this battle with open eyes for this was signalling the future and all the gym battles that awaited them along the way.

Pidgeotto could only watch and brace himself for the end. When it did come, and Blitzle hit him, he cried out, and slammed into the ground from the impact of the attack. Falkner nodded, and returned his partner. "You did well kid," Falkner said, reaching into his pocket. "You deserve this." In his hand was the object needed to get closer to the Johto League. It was the first gym badge!

Aaron smiled as he called Blitzle back to his side graciously accepting the gym badge which was placed into his badge case. "Thanks Falkner" Aaron said before walking over to the stands leaping the side barrier he sat down saying to Zero "It appears your up now good luck".

Falkner walked down a corridor for a few minutes before returning and calling to Zero "Right now I'm ready same rules apply as those set in my battle with you friend over there" signalling towards Aaron before taking a pokeball from his belt calling forth his pokemon "Go Pidgey" Pidgey emerging from it's pokeball in a beam of white light hovering in mid air and awaiting it's opponent to arrive on the battle field.

A small smile came across Zero's lips as he observed the Pidgey, and he griped a Pokeball tightly in his hand, after a moment of thinking, he threw the ball in the air, and out came his Rotom in a dazzling burst of light and sparks.

"Rotom, Thunderbolt!" Zero commanded without hesitation, and watching intently for the outcome of the attack.

Falkner watched Pidgey worried due to the attack but quickly pulled himself together, unfortunately it was too late though as Pidgey fell to the floor fainted. Falkner sighed and cringed "well that was.... disappointing" holding out Pidgey's pokeball and calling out "Pidgey return now" the Pidgey returning to it's pokeball in a flash and beam of red light.

Falkner then placed the pokeball back onto his belt moving his hand across it and picking out another one, throwing up the pokeball he called "Come on out Pidgeotto Now!" Pidgeotto emerging in a flash of white light swooping across the battlefield, Falkner then called to Pidgeotto "ok now let's use Quick Attack!" Pidgeotto immediately took off with speed flying across the battlefield and swooping in for an attack on Rotom. Falkner could then do nothing but watch and hope for the best as the attack began to unfold.

A grin spread across Zero's face as he observed Falkner's choice of attack. Rotom made no move to dodge, and amusement spread through Zero as he watched the Pidgeotto fly clean through Rotom, not affecting it at all. Before the Pidgeotto could fly any farther away from Rotom, it shot another Thunderbolt directly toward him.

Falkner gasped the attack flying through the air and causing the `ka-rack` sound as it struck Pidgeotto who flopped to the ground weak and struggling to get back into the air. Pidgeotto however was determined as was Falkner who grimaced calling to Pidgeotto "Now Pidgeotto use Sand Attack!" Pidgeotto scraping its wing along the ground as it turned collecting up a large clump of sand flinging it at Rotom with precision to try and blind it.

Falkner watched and began to panic but knew he couldn't show this so he just smiled hoping that this kid wouldn't see the fear in his eyes of another imminent attack which could finish off his beloved Pidgeotto and cause them to lose the battle and therefore another badge which wouldn't look too promising the next time he met with the other gym leaders of region.

Rotom zoomed out of the way of the sand flying toward it, and it snickered. "Lets end this," Zero said, "From where you are Rotom, use Uproar." Rotom complied, letting out a burst of sound strong enough to damage the Pidgeotto.

Falkner realized there was nothing he could do other than cover his ears calling out "No!!" looking to his Pidgeotto who fell to the ground and fainted. Falkner then wandered over to Pidgeotto taking it's pokeball from his belt once more saying "Nice one Pidgeotto have a good rest" smiling as Pidgeotto returned to it's pokeball in a red beam of light. Falkner then turned to Zero and said "Nice Job kid here you earned this" throwing across a Zephyr Badge, the TM 83: Work Up and 1560. With that he turned and walked off back into the back rooms of gym to heal up his beloved bird pokemon.

Aaron walked over once the battle had finished and smiled to Zero saying "Nice one Zero now were both well on our way to conquering the Johto League Challenge" his optimism shining through as the confidence spread with each passing second. Aaron then exited from the gym and called out Gigalith climbing back onto his back and asked Zero "Want a lift?" smiling as he held out his hand knowing Gigalith could take the weight of both of them.

Zero was surprised by Aaron's kindness, but only hesitated for a second before taking his hand and getting himself on the rocky Pokemon. "Thanks," he said, positioning himself into a more comfortable spot. "Next stop, Azelea!"
