First Day, First Meal (Open)

It had been about ten hours since Tabs had started his journey from Pallet town. Although he missed his sickly twin sister Emma already, it was overshadowed by the excitement and curiosity of the road ahead. After all the years of stories of adventures given by his older siblings, uncle, and parents it was finally his turn. The wind wasn't too strong but it blew the bangs of his dirty blonde hair a tiny, but noticable bit. He held a smirk on his face that he always did as he walked through the road to Viridian City. flipping his pokedex open and close excited. I finally have a pokedex, Tabs thought with enthusiasm. He wore faded jeans and a breen jacket over his white shirt which depicted a faded image of the pokemon plateau. His uncle's dog tag hung from his neck and he wore brown boots. He could feel his blob-like, vestigial friend's warm gooiness on his neck. Ditto had it's formless vestigial hands on his head as it rested on his shoulders. Ditto had its usual enthusiastic smile on but it's eyes, though pretty small still, appeared enlargened as they took in the new surroundings.

"Well Ditto," Tabs said turning his head upward to the left to look his partner in the eyes as Ditto took the moment to turn it's eyes to Tabs with its large squiggly smile, "We finally made it."

Tabs heard Ditto's belly grumble and his vestigial friend moved it's formless vestigial hands over Tabs' eyes.

"Alright, alright," Tabs said with a laughter in the words as he heard his own stomach grumble as well. He places his pokedex in his right pocket as Ditto jumped from his shoulders onto the ground transforming into a light puddle of magenta as it looked up and gave an enthusiatical "Dit, Dit, Ditto!" and laughed with Tabs turning back into it's usual form. Tabs relieved his shoulders of the heavy baggage of his large dark blue camping bag which he placed on the ground. He reached into his bag and pulled out a plate and a plastic container with a sticker of Ditto's face on it. He opened the plastic countainer and put some of Ditto's pokemon food on a plate. Ditto's eye's expanded showing it's happiness as it opened it's mouth wide and quickly made it's way fastly over to the plate. Tabs laughed a little as he took out the materials and ingredients to make his food.

"I hope you're that fast in battle," Tabs said with his bubbly laugh, "Because we'll need to be the best if we want to get to the indigo Plateau."

Ditto looked up with a large squiggly grin with a piece of pokefood in each of his formless magenta hands before opening it's mouth and saying "Ditto!"

Tabs began to boil the water in his pot over the fire he had made.

"Pasta," he said licking his lips for a moment as he rubbed his hand together as he waited fot the water to begin to boil.

Suddenly, out of nowhere the pot disappeared yet it would easily be found as a yelp came from nearby this yelp soon revealed to be that of an Abra's who was blowing on it's hands repeatedly trying to cool them down because Abra hadn't counted on the pot being hot. As Abra looked up it saw Tabs and worriedly rubbed the back of it's head it's stomach also rumbling Abra hoped it would be fine and that he'd hopefully think nothing of it smiling and laughing slightly it awaited Tabs reaction.

As the pot began to boil, Tabs turned to grab the pasta hungry for his meal.

"Dit, Ditto," Ditto said in a slightly small, curious, questioning tone as the pot disappeared?

"What's wrong Ditto," Tabs said as he began to turn back holding the pasta?

"Wha," Tabs said loudly, his eyes protuberant and wide as he noticed the pot disappeared!

"I only turned around for a-" Tabs began but he was stopped by a yelp from not too far away. He turned to see a peculiar Abra blowing on it's hands. His eyes moved to see the pot which was now on the ground. Tabs took out his pokedex, though he knew what pokemon it was, to find out what more he could on the small pokemon.

"Abra, Using its psychic power is such a strain on its brain that it needs to sleep for 18 hours a day," Dexter replied as Abra rubbed it's stomach and the back of it's head awkwardly as it smiled and laughed a tony bit.

"Well I don't care how much strain your psychic powers are putting you through," Tabs said putting his pokedex back in his pocket, "Stealing is wrong. Ditto let's teach Abra not to steal from people. Use Transform!"

As Ditto began to transform into Abra, Tabs eyed the hand rubbing Abra's stomach and his eye's turned to show a bit of pity while his frown turned more into one of worry. Poor little thing, he thought, He must've been starving. I know after I catch it I'll give it one of my rice balls . . . I was planning on eating some tommorrow but . . . a starving pokemon is more important.

Tabs looked towards Ditto who had turned into a full on copy of Abra now and they both nodded at each other. He turned his gaze back to Abra. Hmm how do I fight an Abra with an Abra . . . all they now is transport . . . hmm I guess I'll have to use basic movements. Then a plan came to him quick like a bullet.

"Ditto use transport to get behind Abra and try to hold it down," Tabs ordered nicely but with command in his voice. The Ditto version of Abra nodded before transporting. I really hope this works . . . Tabs thought ready to grab one of his pokeballs on his waist, Abra's already been weakened a bit by the burning pot . . . but I don't know if it's weak enough to catch yet . . . Ditto appeared instantaneously behind Abra and attempted to grab it.

Abra span around having heard the familiar noise of a reappearing teleport. Abra then swung it's fist at Ditto/Abra the Thunder crackling on it as it launched a Thunder Punch attack (Egg move) directly on Ditto/Abra's chin for an uppercut. Abra was so hungry it thought it would beat these guys grab Tabs' bag take the food and grow the Abra having not eaten for days.

It happened so fast, almos the blink of an eye. Abra swirved around to face Ditto as it reappeared. It's fist crackled with electricity as it launched it's thunder punch.

"Uh," Tabs sounded surprised to see the egg move which he hadn't thought of or known that it had the specific move to begin with. It all happened so fast that there was no time to give out a command or to react as the swift thunder punch uppercutted Ditto in the chin causing it to stumble back three steps. The damage was visible on it's face but Ditto, still in Abra's form, wiped the cut before looking towards the pokemon with new invigoration to fight this battle. Now it had turned into a pride matter for Ditto.

"Ditto are you okay," Tabs asked concerned but Abra simply nodded. Ditto's so . . . brave right now, Tabs thought to himself, that was a mean thunder punch but . . . Ditto just doesn't want to give up . . . thunder punch that's it!

"Ditto use teleport in a circle around Abra and then use Thunder punch," Tabs ordered.

Ditto complied immediately disappearing and reappearing in different locations around the real Abra so fast it couldn't be hit. Until finally it launched it's thunder punch after reappearing an inch or two above the Abra's head. The teleportation trick might've confused Abra or tired Abra out if it was trying to punch Ditto back. He hoped the strike would be sufficient.

This Abra though was smarter than he looked as he quickly teleported after Ditto/Abra's third teleport knowing they were up to something suddenly he had reappeared as the boiling pot dropped onto where Ditto/Abra was the Boiling Water emptying out on top of Ditto/Abra within milometers of where Ditto/Abra was so it would be near impossible to avoid. Abra was smart enough to teleport again as to where Ditto/Abra would most likely try to teleport to avoid it as it was the widest expanse to be used drawing back his fist and bringing it down on the supposed teleport spot hoping either the Boiling Water or the Thunder Punch would take Ditto/Abra down.

"Uh . . . hmm," Tabs thought as the Abra quickly teleported away and the thunder punch cracked the ground a tiny bit where Abra had been standing previously. He looked above Ditto as Abra reappeared above it.

"Teleport now," Tabs ordered just as Abra released the boiling water. Just in time Ditto transported away as the boiling water fell splattering to the ground spreading out in wide vicinity. He noticed Abra reappear as it began to build up it's thunder punch. Ditto then reappeared on top of the wild Abra's head. As Tabs spotted the water an idea flew through his brain in at the speed of light. He reached into his bag next to him pulling out a rice ball.

"Hey Abra," he taunted but pleasantly and honestly as he would give the Abra the rice ball after the battle, "You wanna tasty rice ball?"

Abra was able to realize that though teleporting over and grabbing the rice ball before teleporting away quicker than Tabs could catch him Abra the sat in a nearby tree out of sight eating the rice ball. When Abra eventually finished it teleported back to Ditto/Abra smiling as that Rice Ball was just the thing it needed Abra was re-energized Abra teleported faster than anyone could react around to Ditto/Abra's back starting to charge a Thunder Punch before throwing the punch straight at Ditto/Abra before teleporting round it's front and finishing the attack there with the Thunder Punch once again to Ditto/Abra's chin.

Abra had been too fast for Tabs as before he knew it the rice ball was gone from his hands and Abra had teleported as well. He looked around but didn't see the small pyschic pokemon anywhere. He heard a rustling in the grass and looked to his right ready to send Ditto after it but it was just a random pidgey trying to rip out a work from the ground. He was going to send Ditto after it but he heard the familiar crack of the teleporting Abra and turned to see that the small pokemon had once again given an uppercutting Thunder Puch to his friend. He gritted his teeth as he clutched his fist while Ditto flew up into the air.

"Ah," he exclaimed looking around for some idea as to how to save Ditto! Then his eyes fell upon the random Pidgey trying to pluck the worm out still.

"Ditto quick transform into pidgey," he exclaimed loudly pointing at the small pokemon. Ditto transformed jsut inside as the pidgey flew off with it's prey and Ditto transformed jsut before Ditto would've hit the ground.

"Now then," he said hoping in the new Pidgey form he might have a better chance, "Use gust!"

Abra heard the familiar voice of Tabs teleporting up behind Ditto/Pidgey and knowing flying types were weak to electric type moves he landed on Ditto/Pidgey's back grabbing Ditto/Pidgey round the neck with one arm and flinging it's other fist in on Ditto/Pidgey with another Thunder Punch which if connected would majorly injure Ditto/Pidgey possibly beyond repair.

"Uhg," he said hoping Ditto was okay as Abra teleported ontop on the Pokemon before it could use gust. Ditto flew higher into the air trying to get the teleporter off it's back but to no avail as it wrapped it's arm tightly around Ditto's neck. Abra landed a devasting thunder punch onto Ditto's back causing it to begin to fall at such a rapid speed there would be no time to teleport before the bird pokemon crashed with abra on it's back still causing it to roll in the soft mud that the water had created before.

"Ditto are you okay," Tabs yelled running towards where they had landed. Pidgey opened one eye now covered in mud which would protect it from electrical attacks now. Tabs reached for Ditto's pokeball but Ditto let out a small pidgey cry staggering painfully to it feet as Abra was no longer on it's back.

"You still wanna fight," Tabs asked and Pidgey/Ditto nodded eyeing Abra with eyes that could make a ghastly cower.

"Are you sure," Tabs asked eyeing the injury from where he was but Ditto just nodded it's head a bit still glaring at Abra, "Okay then! Use Hurricane!"

Pidgey kept it's eyes at the small pokemon as it created a humongous Hurricane rampaging in the direction of Abra. The proximity between them it would be near impossible to miss

(Pidgey can't learn Hurricane til level 53 in which it would be evolved and so :D)

Abra got up and looked slowly across to Ditto/Pidgey hearing the trainer's voice and sniggering as Abra ran at Ditto/Pidgey with speed leaping into the air and pulling back it's fist before teleporting and using Thunder Punch again which would be a certain hit as Ditto/Pidgey attempted to use Hurricane with failed attempts struggling with it and this would be wearing it down. Abra was gaining on Ditto/Pidgey with speed in the fall the Thunder crackling with power on Abra's fist it was time to finish this.

Tabs frowned as only small gust appeared and dispersed rather than the move he wished for. I should've known Tabs thought to hismelf wanting to face palm but he didn't knowing he had to continue. Meanwhile Abra sniggered before running fast at Pidgey/Ditto with it's fist sparking. Tabs knew that all the mud covering Ditto from head to toe would either completely negate the electricty or at least lower it so much that it would barely do any damage. And to his knowledge Abra's weren't very strong, like most psychic pokemon, when it came to physical attacks.

"Ditto stop behind you whirlwind, then quick attack," Tabs yelled a moment before Abra teleported as he caught on to the pattern and knew what Abra was going to do now. Ditto stopped and turned around with a loud Pidgey sound before unleasing whirlwind right in abra's face as it reappeared. It then proceeded to soar after it launching it's quick attack, slightly out of breath and still injured.

Abra teleported from in front of Ditto/Pidgey as the failed attempt at a whirlwind came, reappearing Abra was on the floor and once Ditto/Pidgey used Quick Attack he teleported again avoiding the Quick Attack and leaving Ditto/Pidgey on a crash course for the floor Abra reappeared laying against a tree arms behind his head relaxing and sniggering whilst he watched Ditto/Pidgey heading for the ground the impending crash imminent Abra watched hoping this would be the final blow.

Abra teleported away from Ditto after the failed whirlwind. As it reappeared below on the ground Ditto began to soar downwards towards Abra.

"Ditto wait," Tabs yelled and of course to his displeasure, as he thought, the Abra teleported away leaving Ditto heading for the ground. Abra appeared leaning aganst a tree with its arms behind its back with that snigger it always had as it waited for a big boom.

"Ditto," Tabs called out hoping his campanion would be okay but Ditto, much to Tabs surprise, also had a few tricks up it's sleeve. It pulled itself to a stop just above the ground flapping it's wings so strongly to stop that the results was similar to a gust attack though it wasn't going towards anyone. Then, without any order from Tabs, it soared after Abra at a top speed that even amazed Tabs as it used it's Air Cutter (Egg move).

"I didn't know you could use Air Cutter," he said happily but surprised.

(yeah but if your Ditto is a level 10 then really you'd only meet a level 10 Pidgey your lucky I gave you Quick Attack)

Abra once again clicked it's fingers acting all cool and teleported being behind Ditto/Pidgey once more and repeatedly using teleport following Ditto/Pidgey everywhere it moved and using another Thunder Punch on Ditto/Pidgey at the last moment as Ditto/Pidgey began to wear down.

Abra clicked it's fingers and teleported yet again but then proceeded to repeatedly teleport. Ditto/Pidgey began to confusingly look around as it flapped it's wings vigoursly and called out in Pidgey tongue.

"Ditto no," Tabs yelled to it as Abra repeatedly teleported, "Don't Abra's only baiting you! Don't use your eyes, close them and use your hearing!"

Pidgey complied closing its eyes as it listened closely to the sound of the teleportation still flapping it's wings quietly. Then finally it heard the teleportation behind it as well as the sound of the crackling thunder punch. Pidgey dodged it going straight up as it opened it's eyes. It was a couple inches above both Abra and the punch in midair.

"Now transform into that rock," Tabs said indicating a rock about the size of Abra that would be very heavy and Ditto/Pidgey complied transforming into the rock immediately causing it to fall at a rapid speed.

Abra instantly teleported to the tree again and tutted at them sniggering again and awaiting it to change it's form again.

Abra teleported away just in time. Tabs gritted his teeth as the Abra reappeared sniggering in the tree. He didn't mind losing but he didn't want the Abra to take his stuff-which he figured the tricky teleporting Abra would most liekly try to take when it got it's chance. Ditto landed safely on the ground still in the form of a rock.

"Ditto don't change," Tabs ordered, "Abra's only baiting you! Stay as a rock and Abra's thunder punch won't be effective!"

He hoped that his plan would work but this was a pretty smart Abra. It caused him some fustration but he couldn't give up just yet. Not if it meant all their stuff being taken away by the wily, tricky Abra. His pokemons health came into mind in the decision too. He knew that Ditto was becoming tired out and was in pain. This way he wouldn't get hurt and the rock was certainly hard enough that hitting it would result in some pain. He brainstormed some sort of escape or plan to win. The rock plan would dive him at least a little time to think of something.

Abra had an idea aswell though teleporting to the rock with a grin and teleporting again high into the sky with the rock making sure there were no bird types around he dropped it knowing from this height if it hit the ground even if was grass it may crack a bit and cause a bit of damage Abra then returned to the base of the tree and watched the rock fall with speed to the ground.

"Ah," exclaimed Tabs as he saw what Abra had done. Abra had teleported taking the rock which he didn't understand how Abra was able to lift it and teleport with how heavy it was but it did and then teleported back to it's spot on the tree. Tabs began to think fast of how they'd get out of this as he saw no end to the battle. Half his mind tried to solve the problem while the other half worried about Ditto's safety. Luckily almost simultaneously as he got an idea Ditto got so scared approaching the ground that it transformed into the pinkish puddle it had earlier before reforming as Abra.

"Ditto," Tabs called having already returned his gear to his bag as he ran towards his pokemon, "Remember the map we saw at Professor Oak's when he gave us our pokedex and pokeball?"

Ditto/Abra complied with a nod to signify it remembered after all it had only been earlier that day.

"Good," he exclaimed as he reared closer and picked up Ditto/Abra on his arm, "Teleport to Viridian City Pokemon Center!"

He felt ashamed a bit to be running away but he couldn't see an end to the battle other than the 'Amazing Abra' reading their every move and eventually taking all their stuff. There was no regularlly running away from it because it would just keep teleporting to them. Regardless it was for Ditto's own good but . . . he couldn't help but feel the defeat of his first real battle of his journey. He had learned much from the experience and would definately use what he had learned during that battle in future ones. Ditto/Abra teleported away the moment he had said the words. It felt strange to teleport, though it only was for a second. It was an undescribable phenomenon that almost made him forget about his recent flee and loss to the wild Abra. He hoped that Ditto wasn't feeling as bad as he did.

Nurse Joy approached them "Why hello may I help you" she asked kind-heartedly smiling as she called Chansey over to take Ditto through so Ditto could get healed.

Instantaneously he arrived teleporting into the pokemon center and felt slightly weird and off balanced from the recent teleport. Ditto let out a sigh with it's name in his arms before returning to it's bright pink/magenta form in his arms. He looked beat up and he looked around, luckily only Nurse Joy was in the room and he was slightly surprised that she hadn't been surprised or fazed by the random boy appearing out of thin air with nothing more than a crackle.

"Why hello may I help you," Nurse Joy asked kind-heartedly as she approached them?

"It's my Ditto," Tabs announced taking a few steps closer to her, "Ditto was hurt pretty bad . . ."

The thoughts of the amazing Abra who had bested him didn't even creep into his mind as his thoughts were with Ditto at this time. Ditto had been hurt badly in the fight, though he was happy he had drawn out before Ditto fainted as then they wouldn't of been able to escape. He watched as Nurse Joy called Chansey over. He gave Ditto to the Chansey who took his partner away to be healed.

"Will . . . will Ditto be okay Nurse Joy," he asked staring as the Chansey carried Ditto off?

"Yes" Nurse Joy replied calmly and nicely before inquiring "so was this perhaps done by an Abra?" knowing that the Abra was a known troublemaker nearby attacking new trainers.
