The Beginning of it All

Today is the day! Terra screamed in her head, it was really the day! She would finally adventure out, travel around Kanto and work up her way to become the very best. Terra had all she needed right in her backpack and five empty poke balls strapped on her belt. She gazed down at Growlithe and gave him a smile. Growlithe looked up and returned the grin, both of them were ready to go. All she needed now was her starter Pokémon and she already knew what one she wanted.

“Now remember Terra there are three to choose from. Charmander the fire pokémon, Bulbasaur the grass pokémon and Squirtle the water pokémon. Each one of these has their own personality and each one their strong points, remember to choose carefully.”

The lecture her father had gave her a few days ago bounced around in her head as she opened the door to the lab and stepped inside. “Hello Professor Oak!”

The professor looked at the trainer walking in. "Greetings! Are you here for a pokemon," he asked curiously.

Terra walked over towards him and nodded. "Yes, i'm here for my starter," She smiled at him before peeking at the three starters behind him.

Professor Oak looked at the young trainer. "Not many trainers sound as enthusiastic as you young lady," she said, welcoming her to look at the pokemon on the table.

"Well I guess i'm just really looking forward to it," She laughed before going closer to the starter pokemon. She spotted the one she wanted right away, the water Pokemon Squirtle. She moved closer towards him.

Professor Oak looked at the trainer heading for squirtle. "Do you want to choose squirtle, the water pokemon? If so, do you want to give him a nickname, like most trainers do," he asked her.

Terra lightly poked the Squirtle, it looked up at her and smiled. "Squirtle!" He announced. "Oh yes I would love Squirtle," She gently picked him, the Squirtle beamed. "And its fine, I don't think I have a nickname for this little guy at the moment." She reached for her pokeball on her belt and tapped Squirtle on the head. The red light sucked him inside, Terra strapped the pokeball back on to her belt with a new feeling of joy inside of her. She turned towards Oak and bowed towards him. "Thank you so much sir."

( hmmm yeah I see that too. I'll try and find a new image for him )

"No need to thank me," the professor said to the trainer. "You should be thanking your pokemon for taking you as an ally."

Terra gazed down at the ball and smiled, "Yeah, I guess you are right. Again, thank you so much." She glanced back at Growlithe who sniffed at the other two starter Pokemon. "Come on now Growlithe, its time to go," She bowed again and Growlithe returned to her side. "See you soon Professor!" She walked out of the lab and headed down the streets.

A few minutes later she arrived at the beginning of the first route, she took in the familar sights but with a new view. This time she could actually battle, catch Pokemon. "Come on out Squirtle," She took the ball and hauled him out.

"Squirt!" He smiled as he bounced out of his ball, Terra never noticed the _______ sneaking up behind them.

It ws a koffing that seemed like it was in the mood to play, and it gave a small sccreech as if attempting to frighten the trainer.

Terra jumped into the air, frightened by the screech erupting from behind her. She turned around in mid air and spotted the Koffing. "A Koffing! Well it looks like our first battle is on us, Squirtle go!" Her starter jumpd infront of her. "Use Ice beam!"

To start off the battle, the koffing wasn't looking forward to having to fight. It looked at the incoming ice beam, and it smirked [if a pokemon can] as it jumped aside, effectively dodging the attack. It then screeched at the squirtle, rushing forward and attempted to tackle it.

Terra still shivered from the screech but kept her eyes narrowed on the Koffing. But she could not call out to Squirtle in time and he was hit head on. Growlithe growled softly by her side, "Come on Squirtile, you can do this! Use Ice beam again!" Squirtile slowly got back up, opening his mouth to release a frozen beam, "follow Koffing with the beam whereever it goes!"

The koffing tried its hardest to get away from the ice beam before it hit, but it wasn't that lucky and took the damage, rolling a few times across the ground before it got up. It immediately rushed towards the pokemon, attempting to tackle again.

The nerves of the scare was wearing off and Terra finally relized that it was her first battle! She took a deep breath and listened to the soft hum of Growlithe as Koffing got up. It started off towards Squirtle but she knew what to do. "Squirtle dodge and use tackle when he gets near!"

The koffing didn't expect the squirtle to dodge its attack, nonetheless counter, but it had a backup just like the trainer. It jumped up, looking down at the squirtle as it landed a few feet away. It started rushing from behind, hoping that this attack would hit.

Terra watched the Koffing spin and dodge, wow this Pokemon was smart. Koffing dashed forward towards the back of Squirtle, Terra only had time to shout one warning. "Squirtle watch out!" Squirtle glanced behind him and spun out of the way but was chipped by hit that sent him spinning a little longer. Squirtle retracted when he spun a few feet from the Koffing, "Good job Squirtle! Now use tackle!"

The koffing basked in its glory having landed another attack, but the pokemon didn't expect yet another counter to its attack. The pokemon took the tackle, rolling again a few feet away from the other pokemon and the trainer. It got up, a bit weakened but still in the fight.

Terra cheered from the side, "Great job Squirtle, now finish him off with an ice beam!" Squirtle stood ready to attack, opening his mouth and letting loose a frozen beam.

The koffing didn't dodge, taking the attack and flyin backwards into a bush.

Squirtle gains 6 experience!
Squirtle becomes level 7!

"Whoa yeah Squirtle!" Terra cheered as Koffing flew back into the bushes. She rushed over and picked up Squirtle, she hugged him tightly. "Our first battle and we won, this is great!" Growlithe bounced beside her, growling with a grin. Squirtle fell out of her hands and landed beside Growlithe. "So what do you think we should do next? I think we should travel down the route a bit and then lunch with a little bit of training. What do you say?" Both of her pokemon nodded, Terra nodded and the three of them walked down the route.

A little way down Terra stumbled upon a nice resting spot, shadowed by the trees with green grass. She sat down and her Pokemon followed suit. Just as she was about to unzip her backpack she heard a rustling near the bushes, she glanced over and saw a ____________.

[[As a recommendation, don't encounter a pokemon one after another. It doesn't make the roleplay seem realistic. You can always add a story element that you'd be allowed to control, or you could say now that you want me to think of something to toss in for you :3

The pokemon seemed to be a bit in distress, a small dog-like pokemon running out and running fast getting away from them. The other pokemon was a bird, and it was chirping angrily having been disturbed.

Terra saw the two burst out of the bushes, she dived out of the way as the two came dashing towards her. "Growlithe, Squirtle watch out!" She called out as the two pokemon headed towards them. Both of her pokemon leaped out of the as well, Terra could only watch the as the dog like Pokemon accidently hooked onto her bag and went running off with it. "Oh no," She cried as she stumbled up. "Follow those pokemon!" Terra commanded, Growlithe raced off after the dog pokemon while Squirtle ran alongside Terra. "Where are those two going!?"
