My theory on Hoenn remakes:
Well, first they made Generation I. Yay.
Next, they made Generation II, and decided to make it so that people could trade between the two generations, effectively bringing their very first Pokemon with them as the series grew. Also, it's just cool to be able to trade between the two generations.
Then they made Generation III. However, they had revamped much of the way the Pokemon themselves worked, so it was not possible to trade Pokemon between either of the two previous generations and the third one. So they remade the first Generation so that people could KIND OF bring Pokemon from the first generation into the third by building up the same team they'd had in R/B from scratch then trading it to R/S/E. Or maybe even just because they wanted it to feel like gen I was connected to the new gens or something. So Firered and Leafgreen were born.
Soon they moved on to Generation IV. They made the third Gen Pokemon able to migrate to gen 4, which was their plan from the start when they made gens I and II inter-tradeable. They still didn't have a way to get Pokemon from Gen II games, so they remade THOSE for the same reason they made Fr/Lg.
Now here's where Gen 3 remakes come in.
Obviously, you can already move Pokemon from the 3rd gen to the later gens, so they don't NEED to remake Gen 3.
Another tricky subject with remaking gem 3 is Fr/Lg. IMHO, those definitely won't be remade because you don't remake a remake. For many obvious reasons.

Unless, for some weird reason, it will not be possible to move Pokemon from the games that already exist to the next games (in which case they may even remake gen I again (which is HIGHLY unlikely, due to the fact that they've already made that generation TWICE.))

Questions? Comments? What do YOU think?

FR/LG was a fair remake- but they definitely don't need to remake gen 3. Then again, I'm biased because I just plain don't like that generation in particular. Buuut, now that they've hit 5 different generations, they're going to milk the older ones for all they're worth, considering they're running out of ideas.

INB4
> Yellow Remake
> Stadium Remake (or 3, on Wii)
> XD Gale of Darkness Remake (360)
> Pokèmon Snap Remake

And I actually wouldn't put it past them to remake FR/LG. They had the Islands, which was like. The only modification that I actually liked.

[rant]I'm not opposed to an XDGOD remake, but please Nintendo make it stop...

Either way though- they came out with the 3DS, so we know they're going to produce another game regardless (such as Pokèmon Rumble Blast, which actually looks a LOT different than the older games- I'm definitely going to try it), to force some Pokèfans to buy a new console if they want to keep playing the newer games. I love Pokèmon, but it's getting old already. Kind of taking away from the product, with all of these new games that are just so insanely repetitive.

So yeah. Opinion on this- please stop with the goddamn remakes- make something new with a different plot, other than "defeat all of your enemies, the big bad guys, and become the greatest trainer there ever was."

I can die happily if they make a game that focuses on breeding and or researching. I mean, sure you receive the Pokèdex initially, so as to go around the region and research different species- but it automatically does that in the more recent games. Maybe even a medieval setting with guilds and shit would do- just SOMETHING DIFFERENT, PLEASE. [/rant]

See, you have a few flaws with your rant:
1. Sometimes they do try different things- Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Pokemon Ranger, Pokemon Rumble, Colosseum/XD, the list goes on and on. However, people see those as 'spin-offs' or something, just something that's not quite Pokemon.
And another gripe I have is that people always complain about things being repetitive and boring and old in Pokemon. Then Nintendo responds by throwing in something new to shake things up, and people's nostalgia kicks in and they get all 'Y U SCREW UP POKEEMANZ?! U TOTALLY RUIN EVERYTHING!! POKEMENZ SUX!!!'
Essentially, what I'm saying is that fans have no gray area between 'too little change' and 'too much change' and there is no way to please them. Their nostalgia totally ruins their perspective of what Pokemon really is.
What I'd like to ask a hyper-nostalgic fan is this: If the first generation was great, and every generation thereafter has been significantly worse than its predecessor, why has every generation sold more games than the last?

Yeah, that's true. I'm just one of the few who wouldn't mind if they changed it a bit- and I don't mean like a spin-off. The whole "catch, train, battle, win" thing doesn't bother me so much as the whole... There's hardly ever a plot line outside of the /legendary pokèmon-big bad boss of a team-natural disasters we're all gonna die/ thing. I dunno, maybe for once they could make a game where you can be PART of the team trying to take over the world. .__.

I liked Ranger, PMD, etc, too though. D: I was just saying I wanted something more creative than the originals, which although I do love, I've run out of things to do on them. And the newer games definitely are NOT ruining Pokèmon. The idiots who say that don't realize that they're not REPLACING the older games. They're just making modified copies: which you can buy separately. xD Now, if they literally replaced Crystal and made it illegal to play - I'd cut a hoe.

I would personally enjoy a remake of gen 3 it was the best in my honest opinion, but instead of actually remake it, they could get a later date version using hoenn in a few years after the R/S/E with a whole new villian, and brendan/may as the champion.

The thing is nintendo are limited to a DS, its portable thats exceellent but its the lowest on the market, its because of petty rivalries they wont expand to PSP's or an Xbox or PS3, they could add the RP element, depending on who you fight if you win or lose will create different story lines, they could introduce battle royales, an online thing where there are big groups of trainers, and you fight them randomly. What im saying is the way the DS is they become limited, if they create a large scale console (not the wii) they would be able to develop different ideas. If i had the money i would send you everyone on this site copies of my Game book. Its pretty much a notepade with software, console and game designs.

Final point: Star wars was a huge franchise in its time, but with all the remakes people grew to seperate from it. With all the gen remakes i dont want it to happen to pokemon. If you want to update some GB/GBC/GBA cartridges to DS things, don't change anything about it at all, just format it for the DS, add a DS version of the wii shop where you can download the original games. Just boost up the graphics, make a few tweaks and your sorted, it will be easy and cheap, introduces new features which would make tons of money, and hardly any work, plus people will buy it as the original version for that sense of nostalgia. Im even replaying yellow as we speak.

That doesn't even make any sense- if they did that, it wouldn't be a remake. A remake is a game where all they've really done is update the graphics, add in a few new features, and maybe modernize it in certain cases. What you're talking about is more like a sequel, which doesn't happen in Pokemon. Pretty much the only thing that DOESN'T change in a remake is the story, and in your idea, that's the biggest change there is.

Not really; it's pretty much guaranteed that the next generation will come out on the 3DS.
Rayquaza Dude wrote:

I would have to argue that I see WAAAAYYYYY more DS's than PSP's.

Wow, where to begin? Uh, Pokemon is completely a Nintendo franchise. There are some things that just don't happen in video games, most likely because the MASSIVE amount of legal issues that would arise, even if both companies desperately wanted to get a franchise from one company onto the other's system. Also, the Xboxes and Playstations are HARDCORE systems. Everything about them is hardcore; their audiences, their games, their games' content, the list goes on and on. To have a lighthearted, simple game like Pokemon on one of their systems would be a major blow to their reputation for being the 'tough' systems, because of the stupid stigma that Pokemon is a little kid's game. Not to mention the blow that putting Pokemon on such a hardcore, generally violent, vulgar system would be to Pokemon's reputation for being safe and (while not necessarily kids-only) kids-friendly. Furthermore, Pokemon is, for whatever reason, dedicated to being primarily a handheld series. They don't release their main-series games on consoles anyway.

Rayquaza Dude wrote:

The DS isn't limited. Even less limited is the 3DS, which the 6th generation will be released on anyway.
Rayquaza Dude wrote:

Like I said before, Pokemon is primarily a handheld series. People like to have it with them so that they can play it in bite-sized chunks, especially when they go somewhere. If Pokemon was limited to only being able to play when you were at home with your WiiU or whatever, nobody would have enough time to do any of the things that Pokemon is all about, like filling up the massive Pokedex or whater.

(Then what's the point of re releasing it in the first place?)

You mean like the Dsiware shop and the e-shop?

If they were to just pump up a couple things about it and let it be low enough quality to be a download game then they wouldn't really be living up their own standards, would they?

xD He's saying he'd like a sequel of sorts. I wouldn't mind seeing one either.

And lol yeah. There already is a shop for that. O_o They have downloads, but of course a game that you can only download and not actually have a physical cartridge isn't worth as much. I personally won't give them my money because I don't trust online transactions and DEFINITELY don't trust the download to finish with my crappy internet. I'd die if they made a download-only game, which I know they never will... 'cause that'd be silly.

They have plants vs zombies on xbox. Juuust saiyan - it's not a matter of content with them, so long as it sells. And pokèmon would most definitely sell. It's not impossible for them to come together and publish a pokemon game under xbox, or any other larger console - but I suppose the legal issues would make it more difficult. Other than that, I don't see why they wouldn't, so now that it's been mentioned I am wondering why it hasn't, and the whole "just not the right game/console" thing doesn't really fit, considering some of the games these other consoles have affiliated themselves with.

Not that that would happen.
Aze wrote:

It's not really that the game isn't worth as much, but that it doesn't cost them any money for physical materials (the cartridge's plastic and whatnot, the box, etc.), which is a major part of production costs. Without spending money on cartridges and boxes, they don't need to make as much money back, so they can sell it for less. Additionally, a download game has less content than a hard copy of a game almost 100% of the time, so it's cheaper for that reason, too.
Aze wrote:

Why?
Aze wrote:

I agree. Since the Pokemon games are so big (in popularity and actual game-content size), it simply wouldn't work to release one as a download-only game. Games that can only be downloaded are generally very small, often independently-developed, games. It just wouldn't fit to have a Pokemon game as a strictly downloadable game. Also, download-only games are restricted to people with access to Wi-Fi, which not everyone has.

It's, in a LITERAL sense, possible. In the business sense, it isn't. I do think a Pokèmon game would sell just fine on another console - but Nintendo is, as mentioned before, going to milk the handheld systems for as much money as they can: not to mention the demographics. So yeah, in a business sense, it's not gonna happen: even though I'd love it if they did. "Petty rivalries" is a... Somewhat accurate way to describe why they don't want to spread out their range, but it's more so due to the fact that just income wise, that'd be horribly stupid.

So. Yeah. If they're going to do any remakes, it's just gonna be good old gen III on the 3DS, since that's their most recent hand-held.

This seems to have turned into a quote war topic, rofl.

Can I just say that if they do release gen III remakes, which I personally wouldn't want to happen as I like my RSE and it doesnt need to be remade. The graphics and story are fine. Anyways, it wouldnt make sense due to the time lapse. Gens I and III occur at the same time and gens II and IV occur at the same time, three years later. Gen V occurs several years after gens II and IV, so it would be illogical to run it at the same time, being able to trade 6 years into the past or whatever. Therefore, a sequel of sorts would actually make sense. However, if they did remake the games, it would probably be just on DS, as generations arent meant to change platforms...
