Burton finally continues his journey

Misty sighed, knowing that the bide was about as strong as it could be, and that Staryu surely couldn't handle it. Staryu was hit hard, falling back to its platform and fainting. "Staryu...you did a good job..." Misty said, returning Staryu to it pokeball. "Alright then, go Starmie!" she called, tossing out another pokeball, which burst open in familiar brilliance to reveal a large purple creature that seemed like two staryu stuck together. Hya the deeper voiced Pokemon said, ready for its turn in battle. "Alright, Starmie. Get that Watchog out of here, use your swift attack!" Misty called, pointing to the Watchog. Starmie jumped forward, many stars being released from seemingly nowhere that chased after Watchog!

Watchog had just bobbed to the surface when the stars hit.
"Watchog!" he shouted, as each successive star pummeled his middle. Lifelessly, he sank. But just before he submerged, Burton caught a glimpse of spiral in the place of Watchog's eye.
"Tha' 'll do, Hog. Tha' 'll do," he sighed, returning Watchog. (Catch the reference? :D)

"Bah," muttered Burton, considering the power levels of the Pokemon he had chosen for the battle. Quagsire was by far the strongest.
"Alright then, Quagsire- you're up," said Burton, letting him out of his Poke Ball, "let's go with Mud Bomb."
Quagsire created a huge ball of explosive mud in his mouth and sent it whirling at Starmie.

Misty jumped up and down excitedly, seeing the Wathog faint. "Great job Starmie!" she called as Burton called out Quagsire. Instantly, a hunk of mud was whirling at Starmie. It hit, starmie taking just a little damage. "Wash it off Starmie," Misty called. Starmie jumped into the pool, the mud rinsing off of it. "Alright, now use rapid spin!" Starmie began whirling, its many arms spinning almost like the blade of a circular saw. It then shot forward at Quagsire.

Each of Starmie's many legs smashed once into Quagsire before he gathered the sense to dive off the platform he had been standing on. Being primarily Water-Type himself, Quagsire was quite at home paddling around in the water.
"Keep using Mud Bomb," clled Burton, and Quagsire repeated his earlier process of gathering, and then launching mud at Starmie.

"Starmie, get in the water. Use your swift attack!" Misty called as Starmie was again barraged by mud. Starmie dove into the water after Quagsire, shooting mystical stars at it.

Quagsire managed to swim around some of the stars, but he was still hit by most of them.
"Use Slam," Burton called, hoping Quagsire could hear him from underwater. It seemed he could, for he swam straight at Starmie with his head down.

Starmie took the hit, falling back some. "Starmie you okay? Use rapid spin!" Misty called. Starmie again started spinning, and shot through the water at Quagsire!

Quagsire was slammed by the spinning Pokemon. He bobbed up to the surface for instruction.
"Hm... We can't do very much when Starmie's underwater..." Burton snapped his fingers.
"I've got it! Use Surf. Be sure to use the water Starmie is swimming in as the water you use for the move, and be sure to land outside of the pool." Quagsire looked at Burton questioningly, but did as he was told; he swam over to Starmie and created a huge wave out of Starmie's swimming water. The wave crashed towards the edge of the pool. Burton crossed his fingers, hoping it would work.

Starmie was slammed onto its platform, though not taking much damage from a water type move. "Starmie, use your swift again!" Misty called. Starmie again shot stars from it, which chased after the foe Quagsire.

The stars pelted Quagsire one by one, and Burton could tell his health was wearing down.
"You're doing great! Use Mud Bomb again, Quagsire," he called, unconsciously clenching and unclenching his fists. Quagsire opened his mouth wide, collecting a large amount of mud inside. He shot it all at Starmie.

"Eww," Misty said, just as Starmie was hit by the mud. "Starmie, use recover!" Starmie began glowing, restoring its HP back up. Misty giggled a bit, "My Starmie is pretty powerful."

"Evidently," said Burton, regarding Starmie's glowing form.
"Quagsire, Mud Bomb seems to be our strongest attack right now. Do it again!" Quagsire repeated his previous move.

Starmie was hit by the mud bomb, "Starmie, use your swift again!"Misty called. Hya could be heard, before more stars shot at the foe Quagsire.

"Quagsire, Mud Shot those stars to slow them down," commanded Burton. With amazing speed and precision, Quagsire used Mud Shot at each and every star hurtling at him. However, they still came at him, each one doing damage. Quagsire's health was really getting low now, and he began to pant. Despite this he put on his determined face and glanced at Burton for direction.
"Mud Bomb again, Quagsire; it seems to be your strongest move. Just hang in there, I think we've almost got it." Without much enthusiasm, Quagsire feebly spat a large glob of mud at Starmie.

Mud splattered over Starmie, who shook it off and began to glow brightly. "That's it Starmie, use your recovery!" Misty said, giggling as she jumped up and down a bit. It seemed like a cheap strategy, but it was ultimately fair as it wasn't cheating.

[I remember Misty used to irritate me with spamming recover -___-]

"We've almost got her, Quagsire," said Burton determinedly, "I can feel it! Now give that stupid Starmie a Mud Bomb to end all Mud Bombs!"
Quagsire turned towards Starmie. With all his might he gathered up a great load of mud... and shot it all straight at Starmie!
Burton crossed his fingers; he knew Quagsire couldn't go on much longer like this, and he was starting to long for the battle to come to an end.

[I thought using items in Gym Battles was prohibited[it is in the show, or at least was]

(Oh well, I'll just edit my post as this seems to be more of an anime battle.)

The mud bomb thudded right into the front of Starmie, seeming as though it took more damage that time. Unfortunately for Burton, Starmie had just recovered much of the damage it had taken. Misty nodded, knowing all too well the battle was starting to wind down. "Starmie, use your swift attack once more!" she called out, pointing at the enemy. Starmie again released the enemy seeking stars, using the unmissable move to its advantage after having so much mud slapped in its...err...face?

"NO!" exclaimed Burton, already foreseeing the outcome of Swift. Each star pelted Quagsire; the first one knocked into his left leg. The second hit his stomach, knocking the wind out of him. The third smacked into his right leg with an unnerving popping noise, knocking him into a sitting position. The fourth hit his stomach again, and Quagsire's eye's were just about closed. The fifth and final star blasted directly into Quagsire's face. He was slammed flat onto his back, and Burton knew Quagsire was down. Burton returned him gravely.
He glanced at each of his remaining Poke Balls; Mew, Charmander, and Snivy, all of whom were far too weak to battle Misty. He sighed.
"That's it then. You win." He released Charmander.
"We'll be back, much stronger than we were today," he said, feeding Charmander a berry, "and then... Well, that battle will go very differently than this one, I can promise that," he said. And with that he turned and left.

Mist smiled to the boy. "No hard feelings, 'kay? After all, what kind of Gym Leader would I be if I took it easy on ya?"
